I did get the number plate and then the other car stopped and so i got their details. They agreed it was their fault and said to call them to sort it out. I've got a quote from the garage, unlikely they will go through insurance As i would guess its not worth the excess, though they may prefer to claim. I rang them, left a message and now waiting to hear back. It sounds silly but what are the next steps- do I pay and they pay me back (what if they don't) do they pay up first, do they give me half as deposit&half when it's done? Anyone been in this position?

Same thing happened to a colleague recently. She gave the details of the repair garage to the person who reversed into her, they went and paid the bill in advance of them doing the work, sorted.
Hope it's as simple for you, even if it is a pain.

Thanks sshh, I'd not even thought of that. Defiantly a good suggestion. Fingers crossed they haven't given me a dud number!

What a nuisance. A friend had the same as sshh says. Verified the quote (after quibbling about it) and paid the garage upfront.

Well my faith in humanity is totally restored. Not only did the other driver not quibble about the quote from the garage, they paid me today before the car goes to the garage, said if its more to call them and gave me flowers and chocolates as an apology. So whilst its a pain to sort the car, take it to the garage etc, they did make it as easy as possible for me.
