Luke struggles walking long distances so has a maclaren major pushchair. http://www.boots.com/en/Maclaren-Major-Elite-Pushchair-Charcoal-Scarlet_868697/  It's built like a regular maclaren pushchair but on  larger scale for older children; much longer and more sturdy. It's supplied by the wheelchair services on loan to us, but you have to buy any accessories (sunshade, rain cover and basket). We are going on holiday in June so I wanted to order the sunshade for long days out. You also can't use a rain cover without the sunshade hood to clip onto it so come Autumn we will need one of these as well.

I've been looking online for a supplier for the sunshade and all the mainstream stockist like mothercare and John Lewis are out of stock so I asked wheelchair services to recommend me a supplier and I've managed to order one for £60!!!! Eek and I still have to wait until late June to pick it up.

That does seem a bit pricey but saying that I paid nearly £40 for a sun shade for J's pram when he was little, scandulous.

That is pricey. I take it a normal sunshade wouldn't work?

They simply charge what they want because you have to use them. I find it with things baby/safety related, it's disgusting!

no the buggy is much wider than a regular pushchair. I've tried attaching a parasol type shade but it's tiny and doesn't really offer any shade. plus the raincover won't work without the hood. I'll be broke by the time we buy that!

I used to just drape a towel or muslin over the top of the pushchair. But I guess he won't be napping and will want to see out.

the sunshade is the actual hood, not a an extra bit so you can't drape anything over it without the hood. Does that make sense? I've paid £60 for the grey thing over the seat.

Crafty buggers is all I can say, it isn't even that deep us it I'm not sure how much shade that would actually give?

That's bull. You'd think a hood would be standard like every other maclaren!

Have you got a social worker Carole? My friend with special needs child has a pushchair free on long term loan - just thinking for the future.

    It sucks Hug

the pushchair is free on loan from wheelchair services, it just we have to buy the accessories and the hood/sunshade is considered one of them. I'll try and sell the hood on once we no longer have use for it.

Oh that's rotten Carole, and taking a month for delivery too?!  Agree that I don't see why a hood shouldn't be standard - maybe for the height of the child?  I dunno I'm guessing.  At least yo've managed to source one I suppose x

Thanks WE. I hope it comes before the holiday. I will be chasing it. it's not even delivery included in that price. I have to drive a 50 mile round trip to the other side of Wiltshire to pick it up.

That's not fair, especially you having to drive to pick it up!
