....was standing next to the Pope at his first Easter Mass. He had a significant role assisting the pope during mass.
i know a pointless post but I am so proud to say I know him and that he married us. He is actually my distant cousin (his dad and my nana were first cousins) but he is much more than that to me. As a child we would go and spend the summer at my Nana's house. His house was next door (bungalows so a field between them) and often my brother and I would run out of the car to his house first. We used to spend our summers playing on the beach and rolling down hills together. Lots of fun memories. He was ordained in July 1999 it was a special trip for us to go on as it was also my mum's last trip back home before she died of cancer in the September. He has been back in Rome about a year after he married us (so around 2007/8) I remember talking to him when A was in NICU and him praying for her. I missed the mass on TV but have just found a clip on the Internet.
i know many catholic priests get bad press but he really is one of the good ones.

Wow! You must be so proud! Much nicer than the post I made about the priest who married us who is now in prison. The bad guys get all the press, it's lovely to hear about a good one. I hope you get to hear all about it from him sometime , what an honour for him.

Giddy I really did think this was going to be a thread similar to what you've just said happened to you. Am pleased its not as I know they are not all bad guys.

Am I naive in that I assumed it was going to be something nice?

I last saw him in August 2010. He gave my then bump a blessing. It was lovely to get that after having a prem baby. We never seem to be in the same country at the same time (he is from Ireland) I was watching a clip on the Internet. It must be amazing to be part of a mass with 1000s of people there
