How long does it take? I have my first apt next Monday at 3.40pm but I have to be at college for 5pm, will I make it?
It's taken me ages to get an appointment to give blood so am reluctant to cancel but college have just sent the letter asking me to go then which I can't change.

In theory yes, the actual donation takes only 10 minutes but they make you drink a pint of water first and check your iron levels, details and so on. I used to be a bit naughty and dash off and not have a cuppa after. I would always allow at least an hour all in as they are never running early/to time in my experience- depends how far away college is from the blood doning?

What Noggin said. I would allow an hour minimum, it's not the giving blood that takes time but the paperwork and the recovery afterwards. The earlier you get there though then you could fill in some of the paperwork etc

I take longer to give blood, everyone is different and if you haven't been for a while it could take longer. At that time of day it shouldn't be too busy so could get started earlier

I'm usually waiting a good 20 minutes after my appt time, then all the checks ritz. I'm really slow to give blood too and need a good while to sit down after (first time took 3 attempts to get up without fainting!). If its your first time is allow longer than an hour

Try and get there earlier and mention it to them. Have you spoken to the blood donation line to see if you can get an earlier appointment?
I;m going on Wednesday x

I've asked them to ring me tomorrow to see if I can get an earlier appointment. I used to go with my mam when I was a kid, obviously just for the biscuits and I can't remember iyswim taking so long.
