I have been stupidly tired recently and checked my eyes and I have very low iron levels again. If I take iron tablets they make me lose control of my bowels Spatone is massively expensive but might be my only solution. I have hardly any dairy so that can't be impacting my absorption. Any tips please?

Lots of red meat and green veg? Peas, broccoli, spinach.

Red meat is the best source, in particular liver - if you're not a vegetarian and can stand to eat it.
Tea and coffee hinder absorption, vitamin c rich fruit juice or fruits aid it. Lots of leafy green vegetables, in particular spinach, but I don't think that they have as much as red meat. Guinness (but I know you're teetotal!).

Try making sure you have something with reasonable iron content at everymeal, prunes, apricots, rasins are good at breakfast time which is when I usually struggle to fit some in. lentil soup is another easy one.
NHS suggest that wholegrain cereals can sometimes hinder iron absorption

we are a wheat and dairy free household so in theory should be doing everything right!

Cheers all - I think I will have to go down the meds route as other than the meat I am trying to do everything the right way.

I get my Spatone from Amazon - significantly cheaper than Boots
