we had a new boiler fitted this time last year. It's due a service. Over the summer he did some other work for us fitting some new radiators but we had to get him back in as he fitted them in the wrong place. He was a bit annoyed but as we had specified in the quote what we wanted he sent his assistant back to change them over. Now for the last few weeks I've been trying to book the service. I've emailed and rung multiple times. he ignores me for a bit then replies saying what's your availability? I replied a with a series of free dates and explain that I can be quite flexible if he needs a different date. No reply all last week, gave up waiting for him to get to me and planned some play dates for Luke for half term. Still ignoring my calls. Do trades have enough work that they don't need the business or is he trying to piss me off?

Do you have to use him?

Do not get me started! Honestly so frustrating!
H broke bath, no plumbers wanted the job, 3 months later a guy reluctantly done it, he tiled bathroom so we literally had to beg him to do the conservatory floor as no tilers would come to quote, we phoned multiple people, some turned up some didnt some didnt even get back.
Eventually we found someone, we have tonnes of work but he will only do it in dribs and drabs and says he's so busy!
Also we had a plasterer, my friend desperate fir one so I told him and asked if I could give her his number and he said he'd prefer me not to as he's so busy! Wtf!

We have an oil fired system (live in a rural village and no gas on the Close) so they are quite hard to find heating engineers that do oil. As it was him that fitted it, it makes sense to get him to service so we can keep the paperwork and warranty up to date. I suppose if if continues to ignore me I will just have to put it to him that we will look for someone else? Is that a bit hrash. Not sure if he is just a bit dippy and useless with paperwork/communication or giving me the brush off.

I find it unbelievable that this happens, yet there are loads trades people on the dole bevcause they can't get work. Yet you speak to a working tradesman and they are waaay too busy!

I asked because I wondered if there was money in it for him - you find if people have been paid they don't want to do the smaller upkeep tasks like a service. He could well be just slack in the comms department. My H is self employed and often forgets to call people back as his phone tends to ring during 'office hours' when he's got his head under a bonnet taking an engine out. He asks for people to call back which may look lapse on his part but it's not. This guy could be the same. I'd call andsay I need this booked in if you can't do it just say and I will find someone else.

Had this this year with decorator, electrician and plumber. Plus same with people to quote for windows and log burner. You wouldn't believe it unless it kept happening to you!

Is the service for free? If not I'd go elsewhere and pay someone who wants the job. I have the British Gas home care thingy so I get a free service included with that - but I booked my service last month and couldn't get a date until mid December!

no, we'd be paying him!!!

Belle- so would you recommend I call him in the evening? I always worry about intruding on people's family time. I know he has young children. That's why I've sent him email, he has a fancy phone so can pick up messages.

I have to put up a defence for the guy too, I run a one woman show so I have to do everything from replying to emails and voicemails, travelling to and from sessions, setting up, taking photos, editing photos, uploading and emailing galleries, chasing up orders, plus all the general (boring) admin and a million other things too. I seriously need a PA but I cannot afford one (though I will train E up at the earliest opportunity!). In the main clients are understanding as I explain to them my timescales but I do get the odd person who wants everything done yesterday and will email me again if they haven't had an immediate reply. It's a communication error on his part though. Call him later on in the day and see if that makes a difference, if he doesn't want to talk business in the evening then he won't answer your call.

Carole you wouldn't believe the times my H gets phone calls and texts. 10pm last Friday he was dealing with a job, midnight through to 3am are prime time for him to receive text messages too.
I'd call about 6pm and see if he answers.

If he doesn't answer then I'd leave it, no more chances.
Then I wouldn't ever reccommend him either, although I said this about all my non showing workmen and I doubt they'd care as they seem to be too busy.
