So if you remember we put an offer in on Wednesday for a house we liked.
Loads of phone calls later and no answer as to if we had the offer accepted, we finally heard from the estate agents today. The vendor turned down our offer of £167k (bear in mind the house is on the net for an asking price of £169,995) it was a start in the right direction we thought though as the vendor was very difficult to get hold of. She is on a course all of this week?!! Anyway we then said we would just go to £169,000, £995 under the asking price surely they would take this. she was calling at. Lunchtime to discuss.
she never called. It took loads of phone calls of getting nowhere, in the end we told the idiot in the office he had til 7 tonight or we cut our losses completely.
so he calls me at 6, do you know what he said? The vendor is looking more towards £173,000!!! WTF? Why is it on the Internet for £169,995 then? It's at a guide he said! Nope its clearly not. So I let him have it big time. They have done nothing but lie to us and fob us off.
needless to say we smelt a rat and told them where to go!
back to the drawing board for us but at least we know never to deal with that company again.
he also said the couple are elderly and don't use a mobile? But told us she was on a course? Massive lie.

Sounds annoying Lauren, no wonder you are angry! There must be a better house out there for you xx

When I have been looking for selling tips one of the suggestions was to price your house lower than what you wanted to sell it for to get people interested and then negotiate up - I thought it was stupid but obviously some people do it
And tbh she could be on a course all week - people's lives do go on even whilst their house is on the market.

Sounds really dodgy hun better you found out now rather than later on xxxx

Sounds like you are better off out of it but what a waste of your time.

What a bunch of tossers !!

We thought it was all bull tbh so we have moved on now. Never mind-it wasn't meant to be.
QI, that's not generally what happens round here, normally your expected to take a few grand less than asking price. I appreciate her life carries on but he contradicted himself by say she was elderly, and she didn't have a mobile. Why would she be on a course?
Anyhoo its done now, we're glad we can get looking somewhere else this weekend

It's not the done thing normally but I was just referring to stuff I had read on the internet. If she is elderly she could eb on a course for dealing with incontinence or preparing for surgery or god knows what, your life doesn't end as soon as you get old But it is still PITA behaviour.
Actually round here people would start at least 10% below asking price as first offer, next door neighbour said he would do 25% below because of the market

Sounds like a load of shyte, hope you find something else you like soon. I think people should be lucky to be offered more or less the asking price. I agree they were maybe given stupid advice to do this.

QI, I didn't think of an incontinence course! laws just fustrating that's all but that's at he way the cookie crumbles!x

My mum goes on U3A courses - the university of the third age - and loads of codgers get together to learn things and drink tea (she doesn't have a mobile either).
But I would avoid that house, when you're buying you have to have a lot of trust in each other and that's just not a good start. I hope something better is just on the horizon for you.
