I've just discovered a VERY prominent vein at the back of my knee on my left leg. It's proper throbbing and looks ugly What causes this, how do I fix it?
I don't want old lady legs

Varicose vein, are you particularly hot today?

I thought they were little veins? Or is that something else?
Not overly hot, I'm conscious of crossing my legs though and am trying not to

The little purple or red ones are thread veins, I have a few patches of those little buggers. Varicose are the blue ones that can bulge and throb. I have one that sort of lies dormant same place as yours and it comes up when pregnant or in the heat. Very attractive. I don't think there is anything you can do apart from surgery/injections if they get really bad. There are creams and things but I'm not sure if they actually work.

A varicose vein is caused when the valves get damaged allowing blood to flow back on its self in the vein and then pooling.
They are caused through excessive strain through weight or crossing legs, standing for long periods etc normally I think.
You can have a mini procedure to sort it out but I think it hurts and is expensive!

I have one in the same place, I've been using like cream on it and it has reduced it's size slightly. My mum noticed it one night at swimming, made me feel proper ancient. Worst bit is I managed three pregnancies without getting any and have lost 47lbs in last 6months, bit galling to get one now!!
Can't edit from mob, should read pile cream

varicose veins :-( unfortunately they wont do much with them until you have a load and i mean it looks like your legs have ropes going up and down them!
i have one at the side of my leg, i just noticed it the other week and was SOOOOOOO traumatised
support tights (ie old granny tights) are good to prevent them though. theres a surgical procedure which iv seen carried out but the surgeon said that a lot of the time they come back.
the creams are crap
im petrified incase mines progresses
