until I decide what I want to do with the rest of my life next year L gets her funded nursery hours, I think I am going to suffer terribly with boredom so I thought maybe I could do some volunteer work for one afternoon a week. |Any ideas how I find out some info on this?

My mum is manager in a charity shop but started off as a volunteer. I've also volunteered there, I enjoyed it.

What about volunteering in L's nursery. I do it and I love it.

Your local hospital will probably have a volunteering service or the local hospice. Depends what kind of thing you want to do. Most charities use volunteers in some way as well and you might find your photography would be a useful skill for them x
I volunteer in E's school. I love it. Started off by giving me chance to spy on E but now she's in the juniors I don't see her. When I starts I'll probably have to move out from Reception class.

Thanks but I don't think L's nursery would be a good idea for me, I need something away from kids maybe working in a charity shop or something the nearest hospital would be too far away from me to be able to get to and back. I will check out the link thank you

SM- you can just pop into charity shops and ask if they need volunteers, most places are crying out for them!

There are loads of charities out there who need volunteers. Look at Community Service Volunteers (CSV) - there should be a local volunteer bureau which will give you details for your local area. It doesn't have to be working in a shop, there might be opportunities to do something in an office or gardening, etc. If you're anywhere near a National Trust or English Heritage place they use volunteers to do all kinds of things for example. I know you can look on the NT's website.
