Just wondering what people think really. If you've been invited to a wedding but can't attend, do you still send a gift/buy from the gift list? Does it make a difference if it's a whole day invitation or just the evening?
Background is we've been invited to a colleague's reception but have had to decline. The gift list card was in with the invitation and having looked at it I could probably afford two teaspoons at the minute
We will also be having a collection at work as we always do, but I'm the only colleague actually invited from my team so I don't know whether to put into the collection and leave it at that or buy our own gift. At the minute I really can't afford to do both. Any thoughts?

I'd just put into the collection. I wouldn't send a gift as well if I wasn't going. But if I wasn't putting into the collection I'd send a token gesture of a voucher with a wedding card.

I would just put in for the collection and send my own card saying that I wished I could have been there and will be thinking of them on their big day.

Just the collection, no attendance no gift

Agree with the others, add to the collection but I don't buy gifts if I'm not going to the wedding

Thanks all! That's what I was thinking as well. We've got four more weddings this year coming up and it's getting a dear do! And we've been to 3 already! It's the year of the wedding!

Agreed just put to the collection. I personally think its cheeky to put gift lists in invitations
