It's J's 4th birthday next month No idea how that has happened.
I haven't got a clue what to get him. I asked him what he wanted and he said an iPad - yeah right Everytime I ask him, he tells me, when he's bigger he wants a bigger bike, a mobile phone and a 3D DS I keep asking him what he wants for this birthday when he's 4 and he comes up with some bigger goals for the garden and that's it.
So what are you getting your 4yr old for their birthday and what are they into at the minute. He's got Lego but isn't really interested in it.

What about a children's tablet? All L is interested in atm is my niece's DS and Leappad. We'll definitely be getting him some kind of gadgety thing this year.
Or if you can't thnk of anything get little bits like new goals, footy kit, ball etc

I know what you mean SW, C's 4 THIS month!!!
We've got him a couple of biggish Lego kits, and also this pirate ship - I'd been considering the Playmobil one, but since he loves Lego so much I thought this would be played with more.
He also loves games and keeps asking for Guess Who every time he sees an advert for it, so I might get him that, and maybe another Orchards Toys game (he's got the bus stop one). He loves craft kits too, better if they're an actual kit rather than just general craft stuff as he gets excited about making a particular things.
He's constantly asking to play games so I'm sure he'd love his own tablet, but he plays enough on our phones, the laptop and Wii or Xbox, and I like to limit it a bit so he won't be getting anything like that this year.

Belle E has saved up her bithday, Easter and pocket money up for a Google Nexus 7 so when she's at school he'll be able to play on that. I think the kids ones he would get bored with because he plays on bigger kids games that E plays on. He's got his own DS (well E's old one). I know he'll love E's tablet but £160 for one present is too much for his birthday and I still think he is a bit little for one. I'm thinking maybe Christmas but then I worry that's all he'll want to do, he would sit all day on mine, H's or E's phone if I let him. He keeps saying he wants a Barcelona strip so might get him that and the goals, then suppose we could get him some outdoor stuff with summer coming up and some other bits and bobs.
Deedee J likes games but we have them all from E being little, he loves Guess Who though so I'm sure C would. He also likes crafts but the same as C its better to have a kit to make something specific. He got a rocket one for Christmas and loved all the paint and glitter - I hate stuff like that but since its getting towards summer he could do that kind of stuff outside

Luke was still very into his Thomas train sets from the take and play range so got lots of those related gifts including lots of engines and tracks. He's just started getting into 'baddies' probably after seeing what the other children bring into show and tell at pre school, so for Easter he got some Star Wars figures instead of chocolate.

Trains, remote control cars, mini pool table, playmobil fire station and engine. He also like board games, dominoes and is starting to like dressing up.

Carole, J's not really into Thomas anymore but you've reminded me I got E's old Scooby Doo figures ot for him the other week and he's liked playing with those and the monsters that go with Scooby so something like that I think he would like.
LB - He has so many cars, trains, fire engines, lego fire station, pool table, table football and also every board game you could think of as E has them all. He also likes dominoes. J's funny with dressing up, I think it takes boys a while to like it, where as girls love it from being teeny tiny.

just remembered that Luke is really possessive of his DVDs at the moment. he lines them all up in the TV drawers and reorganises them. Cars (the animation film) etc. Are there any new DVDs out that J might like?

Actually yes, he want's Madagascar 3, good idea, thanks.

At 4, C had Lego, DS, Arty stuff (I bought a storage box, and filled it with arts and crafts goodies), Books.
When my SS was 4, he got Star Wars space ships, light saber.

L is really into football, playing, watching, talking about it. He has a little table football which he loves.
He also loves batman Spider-Man and the turtles so he has those figures and the bay cave and a Spider-Man house. He is always kicking a ball!!! If I'd only ever to buy one toy again it would be a ball

AK J isn't really into Star Wars or Lego, I keep trying to get him to play with Lego but he isn't interested.
cp - J sounds exactly like L, loves his football, football tops/strips, watching it, he has loads of balls but loves it when he gets a new one. I think he will love the new goals, we've always got the little ones set up in our sitting room. They were only about a tenner, he's had them since his 2nd birthday and they have been played with every single day. He's not really into Batman or Spiderman yet but he has started watching the Turtles.

Tate adores his Lego and its all he really plays with other than his ipod and Hexbugs.
04/04/2013 at 19:58
Alaina J would rather play on my phone or his DS than play with actual toys. What is a Hexbug? Just googled, is it like a Zhu Zhu hamster but a spider?
04/04/2013 at 20:07
Oh yes, we've got some nano hexbugs, they're little robot bug things that go round a track, and you can build different tracks. C had this one for Christmas, although there were some good offers on it at the time so ILs got it quite a bit cheaper
04/04/2013 at 20:11
So do you need a track that they go on Deedee? I might look in to those, its maybe something a set of grandparents could get for him.
04/04/2013 at 20:14
That set is a track and comes with two of the nano bugs too - I saw the full size bugs IRL the other day and I'm not sure they'd fit on those tracks!

What about Usbornes" big book of science things to make and do". This has lots of crafty/science things that my daughter (I know shes a girl!) has enjoyed doing. Guess Who has been a big hit. So has an Orchard games one called "If you see a crocodile". Played this with my 4 year old nephew at the weekend. He likes practising numbers - he got some of these wipeable activity cards at Christmas.
Hmm seems a bit confusing. So you can get nano bugs which are small ones that go on set tracks and big ones that just walk around.

My 4yo is young for his age and still loves his Happyland people, but he is starting to play with his brothers Imaginext stuff, which I prefer to playmobil etc. We have the pirate ship, space station, rocket, batcave, ambulance and submarine. Its really hardwearing and they both (even DS1 who is 7.5) play with it.
He has some lego but gets frustrated with it quickly as its a bit small.
