I've found since having 3 kids I've had to let go of the housework to a certain extent and accept my house is not a show home but instead an untidy homely house! There is always housework to be done here and it's very rare that the whole house is clean/tidy at the same time as I do bits every day instead of all in one go. The things I keep on top of are hovering downstairs (done nearly every day) and bathrooms are kept clean. Oh and it doesn't take me long to flick the duster round my sitting room so I keep on top of that. Things I'd like to do more are mopping the tiled/laminated floors, deep cleaning (kitchen cupboards, doors, windows etc) and keeping upstairs tidy. My house is one where if I know a visitor is coming I spend extra time getting it nice and tidy whereas if a visitor drops by unannounced I panic as there's usually a mess somewhere!
I've been thinking about this today because a mum asked me in the playground if I was OCD about housework because she is. I'm definitely not. I sometimes wish I was because then I would be happy for anyone to call by whenever instead of wanting people to give me notice lol. But then I do think that people who spend all their time cleaning miss out of time with their kids etc. There should be a happy balance!
So do you have a show home, a homely home or a tip lol? And which one of those do you wish you had?

My house is what I call lived in. It tends to be spotless for a small window over the weekend after we've all blitzed the place, then someone will use the bathroom and leave the mirror steamy and towels on the floor, H willtake his socks off and fluff gets everywhere, paperwork mounts up on the side over the week and before yo uknow it the house looks messy again. It winds me up but I'm learning to let it go.
I don't wish I had a show home by any means, but i actually dislike my home the layout and decor that I wish I had a different home.

Can you change the décor Belle, or does having the time to do it make it an impossibility? We're just starting to have our attic converted so hopefully all the extra space will combat the massive amount of toys in my living room and all the paperwork on our kitchen table. I just feel like I'm fighting a losing battle sometimes, my H can be as bad/worse than the kids, I spent a couple of hours this morning tidying/cleaning the house and H comes home, chucks his work jacket on the floor in the hall and makes himself lunch and leaves everything he's used out on the kitchen worktop. I wish we did live more tidily so that when visitors come I can feel more comfortable.

My house is lived in too. Can be tidy and can be a state when we've rushed out the door! I like the 'feel' of my house, it does feel homely to me. It is small so would prefer. Bigger house but I make what we have nice to live in iyswim. I also have a tiny garden but I like to put some colourful flowers in and a table and chairs and it feels much nicer.

I've just had the kitchen redone and living room decorated this year Mossy I just dislike the layout and we can't do anything about that. We bought 7 years ago for the 2 of us, with 2 spare rooms for the kids, then ended up having them both full time plus one of our own! We can't afford to move and can't extend or go up so we're just stuck. I'm just a moaning old cow about it and as usual want what I can't have.
I hate the trail of destruction others leave behind, especially after it's just been cleaned.

I love my house but its never as tidy as id like. we have a downstairs bathroom so i maily try and keep on top of the downstairs, if visitors come they dont need to go upstairs.
at the mmnt its spoless as we made sure it was done before bubs arrived but normally its very lived in. my 2 year old can trash the place in about 5 minutes flat.

On the surface, tidy and uncluttered, open a drawer or cupboard at your peril though!
I'm really bad for chucking all the mess in a cupboard so I don't have to see it.

Lived in here too. My house is never clean in its entirety but is always pretty tidy.

My home is definitely a lived in home. It's both clean and tidy right now as I've just cleaned, hoovered and tidied every room, sorted the washing out and mopped the kitchen, bathroom and toilet floors. It will stay like this until tomorrow as J has been bathed and is in bed watching a dvd, E is sleeping out and H is nightshift but come tomorrow morning H will dump his dirty washing, E will do the same and J is like a whirlwind destroying everything in his path so it won't last long.
BUT the paintwork is minging, its got fingerprints and handmarks all over it, in every room, E's bedroom carpet is minging and the doors could all do with being painted.

an absolute midden
i spent 5 hours the other day blitzing the place, it was gorgeous, like it used to be. approx 30 mins after both boys came back from cm there was sticky hand prints/toys/baby paraphanalia every wehre, i go upstairs and L has poo'd and not flushed and theres almost a whole loo roll down the toilet, h gets in and theres his boxers and dirty socks lying on the landing

I suppose at first glance people would say its show home tidy and I like to think that I keep it clean and tidy. I have to admit though, it's sometimes a struggle to keep on top of and I'll admit that there are certain areas that need a real good clean such as under the bed. Mess does make me stressed though.

Mine is lived in for sure. We're not brilliant at tidying up. Last night my daughter was doing crafty stuff downstairs. I said tidy it up before bed. H was in the room with her. When I went in there while he was putting her to bed there was paper, sellotape and pencils all over the place. She'd half tidied but not completely! We're all like this, though, which is probably just as well otherwise one of us would be driven up the wall!

My mum is a real clean freak. What she must think of my house god only knows! We do blitz it once a week but seeing as H is in charge if hoovering and dusting I can't say it's done well. I always tidy the kitchen and wipe the work tops everyday as H leaves a mess every morning. But I usually have 3 piles of paperwork on the go. We have loads of storage but never enough it appears

Lived in! Some rooms more so than others. Actually conservatory is a tip as it is a play room, computer room and dining room in one. I clean and tidy throughout the week but it never lasts.

I've really high standards and atm my house isn't cutting it. It's not a tip but it's definitely not a show room.
H just came home from 4 weeks away with bag after bag of kit which needs a home! We've very limited space and am in dire need of a boots sale etc. I'm going to list some stuff as free on our swap site just to get it gone. My kitchen cupboards haven't been pulled out since nesting in December.
