It's my dad's birthday next week. I've not spoken to him since we had a falling out of my sister not being able to stay with him and mum. That wasn't a falling out with him as such, just we don't really speak that often. He didn't call or text me on my birthday a few weeks ago and my mum dropped a card off to H, the day before as she was passing, with a £20 note inside - her usual lack of effort for my birthday.
H says we should just send dad a card. Mark the occassion but not put any real affort in as they never do with us. But I feel bad for that, he's my dad. What would you buy or send? He's not really one for anything fancy, doesn't drink, no hobbies....

Difficult part of me is with your H send the card and leave it at that, but I completely understand he is your dad. What about something small photo of your family in a frame or maybe something practical like a shirt/ t shirt, sorry not much help I know

Actually sending a large tomblerone or couple boxes maltesers is a good idea. He does love those. Nothing fancy but marking the occassion. I'm upset about it all still, but I've helped them out so many times and I just feel really let down.

It's not surprising you feel like yhou do, but I can understand why you want to do something. I think some chocolate and a nice card from you all is perfect.

Belle, at least you got money off your mum. I wish mine would give me money as her presents are shocking! I got a barbie doll for my 21st... Not exactly excited about my 30th present
Hugs though. It's tough when family aren't supportive xx

You know WS, I aksed for Boots vouchers, I never expect much but she couldn't even do that. Couldn'tbe bothered to go to a Boots store that are in EVERY town in the UK and buy me a gift card. She just bunged a note in the card. For my 21st I got a cheque for £20. Not even a pound for every year of my life. For my 30th I got an iron - but in fairness I asked for that.

That's such a shame. I always think ill make more effort with our children- although I might overcompensate a little!!
