Just a musing really, as I was chatting to my mate about the fact that our kids seem so overwhelmed with presents every year. I'm sure some of the stuff I was gifted was more expensive in today's terms but I think it's down to the fact that there just wasn't as much 'stuff' to buy back then. No internet shopping, no shops like Primarni or Poundland to fill stockings with. How did we survive as children?!
I remember getting a smart yellow BMX one year, and a really nice mountain bike (with suspension ha!) a few years later. My sister and I once got a slide between us; that was a great Christmas. Then we both got a TV despite my olds telling us we'd never be allowed one. We used to get one big present and a few small ones...I got a Reebok shell suit and I thought it was awesome, hahaha.

The big gifts were things like: bike, Atari console, home computer (back before many folk had them at home - it broke, reckon it might have been dodgy ha ha), and then a whole host of other stuff which wouldn't have been cheap overall: party dresses, filofax (guffaw - what 8 year old needs a filofax!), jewellery, books, roller skates, board games (some were pretty dear too), Mario Bros handheld game, puzzle books, videos, undies, smellies, chocolates etc.

We'd have a "big" present between us, a biggish present each, along with tons of smaller gifts.
We'd get loads of arts and crafts stuff, loads of "kits" to make stuff. We'd get a new outfit, to wear that day, that was always really posh (My Mum was a single Mum, so throughout the year, we never really had NICE stuff. she'd save throughout the year, to buy us a totally amazing outfit)
Character bubble bath, books, board games...

One Christmas I was given a red dolls pram and a new doll which I then carried everywhere with me for the next few years, and a rainbow umbrella. I look happy as Larry in the photos
I think I used to get one big present and a few smaller things. I would get a pillowcase at the end of my bed with things in as well, all I can remember from that though was the selection box.

My Christmases started getting crap when I just got money/driving lessons.
My best one was when I opened the door and there was a huge Barbie house all lit up I didn't open anything else for ages

How can I forget that we once got an Amiga 500 - worth money these days, told my Dad not to sling it out! I used to love playing Lemmings on it

I only remember one Christmas growing up and that's the year my real father took our presents away Boxing Day to sell for money for the pub. I had a keyboard for about 20hrs.

Ours were pretty much the same. A big present which was usually something like a pram/bike or as we got older it would be a computers/games console.

Belle that's awful!!!
I mainly had Barbies, craft sets and a keyboard. My keyboard was a big Casio thing. We all had them (friends) for some reason.

I loved Christmas as a kid. Me and my sister used to get a big present each then loads of smaller ones, the same as I do for my kids.
I remember one year I had asked for a telly for my bedroom and a hi-fi, my mam told me I wouldn't get both as I would only get one present but I remember saying I couldn't decide which one. On Christmas day I went down stairs and the telly was my main present, we opened all the rest of our presents and I was busy playing with something when my mam asked me if I had noticed something down the side of the chair which I had missed, it was my hi-fi.
I also loved Barbie and used to get loads of Barbie stuff, I remember one year me and my sister got identical Barbie convertible cars and a caravan.
When I was bigger it was computer consoles, I was so chuffed when I got my Sega mega drive, I didn't want to do anything for the rest of the day.

Christmas as kids was awful and amazing. Awful as it caused huge arguments every year as to where we would spend Christmas.my brothers and i would start negotiations straight after our summer holiday in August. But amazing because we always had family traditions and somehow my mum always managed to get us exactly what we wanted. She must have saved for months for it. We got one big present and lots of smaller ones from Santa, and then a medium sized present from mum. My best presents were two bookcases! I was (still am) a total book worm. I remember getting Matilda one year and reading it 3 times on Christmas morning.
One year there was a huge box to open. I was so excited. It turned out to be wellies, I was very disappointed!
