We're off to London between xmas and new year and hoping to get to a museum. Which would be better for a 5 and 2 year old - Natural History or Science? Or somewhere entirely different?

You could do both as they are next to each other. I love both them but would probably sway towards the natural history.

Yes we may well do! Just wondered if there was a definite better one to head to first. I went to the science museum a few years ago (without kids) but don't think I've been to the natural history museum, so maybe that's a good start.

Both have lots of inetractive stuff and would gladly spend a day in each! Take food though!

Is food expensive QI, or are there no cafes?
24/12/2012 at 14:38
From what I remember there are loads of picnic areas as I think they expect people to bring their own food and the cafe was tiny but expensive and I don't remember there being anywhere really to eat nearby.

Actually it is over five years since I've been so it could have improved but I wouldn't risk it IYSWIM?

Thanks for that QI. I'll try and grab a few extra bits from the breakfast buffet then to keep for later!

The Natural History museum and the dinosaurs are very busy so you will have to queue unless you are there before 10.30/10.45. Both have great areas for the kids and both have good picnic areas. We went on Sunday and did the dinosaurs at the Natural History and the earthquake and then went to the science museum to see the space exhibits and rockets show up in the launchpad on the 3rd floor

I love the nh museum. I still remember standing in awe under the life size blue whale as a child.

Thanks everyone. Excited!

Does the nh museum still do luggage storage does anyone know?
28/12/2012 at 21:21
According to that link I posted they have a parents survival guide which includes that they can store pushchairs for you if that helps? www.nhm.ac.uk/.../index.html

Thanks QI. I did use your link, we'll have a large bag and pushchair so wanted to double check before I get all that way! Was going to leave it at the hotel but the tubes are awful so trying to minimise back and forth travelling.

I know they did it at least twenty yeras ago and it was very popular then and I can't imagine they would stop it as it is so helpful

They still do :) Cost us £9 to leave a massive bag, 4 coats and a pushchair but totally worth it and the museum was great. Thanks for your help everyone (especially for the links). Sciemce museum next time :)
