What are your children dressing up as?? I'm stuck as on the letter from F's school it says they can dress up as something from a toy story - I presumed it meant the film 'toy story' but other mums have said it can be from any toy story iyswim?? I'm stuck either way!! Any ideas? F wouldn't dress up in anything that made her look silly, she prefers to look pretty!!!

No ideas for girls I'm afraid, think my 5 year old will be going as Hairy McLary - not sure yet how I'm going to manage that one but will have a think!

I have been reading Greek stories to B and Mr Men books recently so I'm at a loss as well.
His favourite book character is 'My naughty little sister' - because he can relate to having a naughty little sister! So he could go as himself!
There is pretty charcters in toy Story as well?

I'm now thinking that as it's world book day it's more likely to be any toy story rather than the film??? It would have to be something I could mostly buy as creating costumes is not a strong point of mine!! Need to order it in next couple of days for it to get here in time!

Isn't a book enough of a brief for them why did they narrow it down. See in our house P insists on one of his superhero costumes or nothing.

I know QS, it's a pain. The Juniors have been given any character from a mythical story and the Infants from a toy story!! I've drawn a complete blank lol.

L's nursery class have chosen Room on the Broom as their book. I posted the other week asking for ideas as he wants to go as the dragon. But alas the dragon is now too scary and he doesn't want to dress up at all. God help me.

Rag doll or Jessie? Otherwise tbh I'd take a leaf out of P's book and just send her in in a princess dress or something with a fairytale book.

C is going to be Wally (Where's Wally).
Previous years he has been A storm Trooper, Peter Pan,Fantastic Mr Fox, Dr Who and Postman Pat. Basically, any costume we have at home at the time.

I'm really resenting this this year. We've been told to send them as their favourite book character. A's is daisy from the kes Gray books, which isn't a recognisable character. M doesn't have a favourite character. We have dozens of dressing up costumes, but when I try to fit them to a book character, the kids just reply that that's not their favourite. We have an ace crocodile costume I'd love to add a ticking clock to for Peter pan crocodile, but they're not buying it. We have witches costumes but meg etc all out of favour. We have a cat which I suggested making hat for, cat in the hat, nope. I'm not anti dressing up, but I feel under alot of pressure. I need to get out more!

Thinking of the toy first, most toys have books don't they? Peppa Pig, Holly from Ben and Holly, Winnie the Pooh character, Little Princess? Does that help at all?

We are lucky as A's nursery has asked them to wear something red as they are doing little red riding hood. Fortunately we have a red riding hood costume which A loves so job done. It is hard though, and without spending a ton of unnecessary cash!

Thanks Leela for those ideas! She's now decided she wants to go as Pinocchio as that's the book they're doing in school and it's a toy so result!! Costumes are cheap on Amazon too ha ha.
