H meantions on and off about the type of house and lifestyle we could have in Australia. He really thinks he would do it if I agreed. I don't though, I absolutely couldn't leave my parents, not so much for me but they live for my boys. I just don't have it in me, I have to say if it wasn't for them though the houses would tempt me. Could/would you do it?

Hell yeah! Without a doubt, although not Australia, the Ozzies get right on my ***.

No, I couldn't move away from my family, especially that far!
One of my cousins moved to Australia last year, and my Aunt is finding it quite difficult.

Yes I could. We had talked about it before, not as far as Autralia, somewhere in Europe. H had talked about it when E was little but I had always said I wouldn't like to leave my family but its sh!t here so yes I would. I think if H didn't have the job he's got then we would definitely go.

Ah the bugs too actually, I can't deal with the size of spiders over here, imagine there! Where would you go to belle?

H would love to move to America, but i'm in the couldn't leave my family camp too.
We've got some family who live in Wales, and i'd quite like to go and move to be near them, it's beautiful where they live, but work is seasonal as it's a touristy area, and i worry that we'd not have the life that we've got now.
I always worry that the reality is never as good as the dream.

I do wonder if its just a case of the grass being greener Chids.
SW you make it sound a possibility, I sometimes wish I was like that, I don't know what my take would be if it wasn't for family. I'd possibly be on the other side if the world now :-s

Yes, although it would need to be english speaking (moving a long way away is hard enough!) and not have too many scary bugs. I like New Zealand and Canada. Hubs likes the idea too, but we think it would kill his mum.
What would a budget of about £250,000 be in Australia, I may search and tease myself?

Yes and we have. Sometimes I miss my family terribly and it's hard to make a new life for yourself, you have to really put yourself out there to make friends. But the benefits for us (a great job for my H with enough of a salary that I can be a SAHM, better weather, clean streets, not as big a drinking culture therefore less random violence) makes it worth it for us. We didn't have children before we moved though, not sure if we'd have been able to do it with a family.
Oh one of the other benefits is that we're actually closer to our family in a way because we're removed from all the petty squabbles that can occur in family life.

We moved to Switzerland two years ago and I have a love hate relationship with the country. I think it would be like that wherever we are, always good points and bad points. The thought if leaving England and my parents horrified me at first but it was a good opportunity for my now husband to progress in his career so it would have been quite selfish of me to refuse to go. Even my parents said that it's my time now and I have to do what is best for me and I knew they understood my position as they travelled around a lot in the army leaving family behind. I now would be reluctant to move back to England as we wouldn't have as much money and the quality of life here is better. I do wonder if, when and why we would move back but right now we are quite happy where we are.

Oh yes those too and Maccys never tastes the same lol. What about British brands as well? Chocolate, crisps? They are never the same, would have to go to the expat shops and they would cost a fortune haha.

13/02/2013 at 16:22
Poor kellfi you sound traumatised. I'm the same though, I hope say in 15/20 years time we can buy a holiday home but that's as brave as I get.
Switzerland sounds lovely, what sort of house are you in there if you don't mind me asking?
13/02/2013 at 16:24
