My BIL is wanting to propose to his girlfriend in he near future and has asked me for some idea's! So ladies of MD please help me by either sharing your proposal story or with suggestions/ ideas.
i do know he is wanting it more personal and private and not a big thing in front of lots of people. Even something at home with added special touches would be good but what added touches?
So ladies what is your story, let's feel the love this Thursday morning :)

Mine was central park, new York. In the snow after wed been ice skating (I use that term loosely, it was more wobbling about while young children whizzed by us). It was December, it was freezing and we stopped at a bench, I was thinking why, it's freezing I don't want to sit here! Then he got down on one knee and proposed :) I said yes and dragged him immediately to Tiffany to look at engagement rings ;)
Tell yours LC!

Mine was supposed to be at home with a romantic home cooked dinner but my H was worried that we would end up having a barny as he would get stressed and grumpy, so he did it on a Saturday morning whilst we were having a lie in in bed, he didn't get down on one knee but it was lovely and very us! He then cooked me dinner that evening and took me shopping the next day for a proper ring as he'd bought one to propose with, I was amazed with the fact he'd actually prepared for it!

Weekender yours is so romantic.
Mine is far from romantic. H proposed when I was 5 months pg with E. We were at an italian restaurant and he was acting really odd and very quiet. I asked him what was wrong and he kept saying nothing then eventually just blurted it out that he had been thinking of asking me to marry him. I actually told him to stop being stupid and that we were too young ( I was 22) The rest of the meal was a bit awkard
Once I slept on it I decided that who cares if we are young, so I got a lovely card, wrote some crap in it and said yes I would marry him

Mine was at home. I'd been out shopping all day with my mum, and H asked me to text and let him know when I was on the bus home. I thought it was so that he could have the kettle boiled and a brew ready. I walked through the front door and through into the living room, to find him down on one knee holding out a ring. He had lit candles all around the room as well.
It didn't dawn on me until the next day that I never got that brew I was expecting!

No.1 - Christmas Day, in SCBU. I was holding C for the 2nd time, my bf got down on one knee, and proposed. I was too busy looking at C to register what he was doing, and what he said. Wouldn't recommend a Christmas proposal, they're unoriginal. Everyone knows someone who got engaged on Christmas day. Was nice that C was there too though.
No.2 - We were having an argument, when he blurted out "so will you marry me, or what?"
No.3 - No proposal, just a mutual agreement that we wanted to get married.
I'm not one for "romance" so they suited me...
When my Dad proposed to my Mum for the second time, he'd got a ring (that I had chosen, and bought), and he just handed it to her, and said "shall we get married then?" I get my lack of romance from my Dad, obviously.

We were in our new house, everything all a mess, we had a picnic lunch in garden and were chatting about our plans etc and h asked me to marry him, I said ask me again when he had ring, so he went up stairs and got the ring , I'd no idea he'd got it (I had pointed him in the direction that it was the one I wanted, he's *** at present buying so he excelled himself)
I then was going in loft earlier Nd the hatch came down and split my eyebrow open so had to get it glued in a&e

We were at Disneyland in Florida watching the fireworks at the castle. I turned to say something to H but he wasn't there...looked down and he was on one knee :)

There isnt one. We planned to start TTC in 2010, after his brother's wedding which was abroad. NYE 2009/2010 we were at home watching Hootenanny (!) and he asked how I would feel about putting off TTC and getting married instead. I wasnt sure. We discussed it over the next few days and then weirdly, one morning I just woke up thinking I wanted to marry him. So I told him. We didnt tell anyone until we had booked the wedding, in the October that year, didnt have a ring, we used the money for the deposit instead. We got married the following October. So we knew we were getting married for 10 months before anyone else! Then the next year FLEW. We have now been married 2 years.
We are TTC and 13 months and a MMC later, I still dont regret getting married instead of starting to have a family. It sounds very unromantic, but it worked for us!

We never celebrated Valentine's Day, I always thought it was a big load of commercial guff.. The year we got engaged, 14th Feb was a Saturday, so H thought it might be nice to have a day out somewhere, and suggested popping down to Southend (we lived in London at the time, so was easy to do). I thought nothing of it, but when we got there, we walked down to the beach (normal), sat on the sand (normal) and then H said I had to close my eyes as he had a surprise for me (again, not altogether out of the ordinary, normally little pressies were done like this (choc bars and stuff!) When I opened my eyes I could see "Marry me?" written in the sand and a champagne bottle with a ring on the top. I was in shock and didn't say anything for ages, until H said "Well...... will you?" I kind of screamed/choked 'Yes' and he put the ring on my finger, we drank the champagne (he had 2 champagne flutes in his bag) and then, in a rather hazy drunk state we had fish and chips on the freezing beach, played in the arcades, and went back to London. He gave me a new top from Coast on the way back and told me that was for tonight, and he had booked dinner at a very lovely restaurant.
It was a lovely day

Ah lovely stories!
Mine was very romatic - on a clifftop in cyrpus he had the red arrows doing a display and when they did the heart in the sky got down on one knee with a ring! Afterwards we had chanpagne on the runway with the pilots it was fab!

Mmm I appear to have missed out. We just decided to, no fancy proposals or anything here I am afraid although I realise that isn't very useful for your BIL!

Thank you all for sharing your stories, romance is not dead after all lol
Seems to be quite a few done at home then out afterwards to celebrate which would be very them.
He lives by the coast and think they go there quite often so might suggest something around this. Going out to celebrate afterwards would suit them too, plans are already coming together in my head, I just hope he likes them. They come out to see us March time so maybe could do something around that followed by dinner?
He is not a Xmas proposal kind of guy, December yes as this would be their anniversary but not a deal breaker.
He has asked me to also try and find out what kind of ring she would like, but wants to choose it himself. How on earth am I meant to bring up this conversation without being obvious!
Just want to add, I am honestly not an interfering SIL, he has asked for my help :)

We were on our first foreign holiday together, in Zakynthos. on the first morning H got up to go and get fresh bread to make bacon butties. He was cooking and I got up to get a shower, walked into the bathroom and he'd set the ring box open on the shelf with flowers all around that he'd picked from outside. The mirror was right opposite the doorway and as I was stood dumbstruck his head appeared round the corner so I could see him in the mirror! I always laugh now and say we got engaged in the loo, but it was perfect, very us. I wouldn't have wanted anything public. We had a lovely holiday and sent postcards to everyone so they found out that way, apart from our parents obviously. Then when we arrived home my parents picked us up at the airport with balloons and banners and stuff. Was 2005 but feels like a lifetime ago now!

We were away on our first holiday abroad, we went out on the evening as usual for a meal followed by a few drinks. We then went along the beach for a walk, sat on the beach looking out to sea and he got down on one knee and proposed. It was lovely, we had the beach to ourselves. We have been married 9 years
