do it do it do it
i had a lovely homebirth with DS - it was gentle and I didnt need any drugs (just used a TENS early on and then got into the pool and had a physiological third stage). I borrowed a BPIAB from a friend and it was great. Some NHS MW teams have their own pools.
I cant think of any downsides really! People will only come round if a) they know you've had the baby and b) you let them. I went into labour a week or so early, so everyone was suprised (including us!). DS was born just before 1am, and we had a lovely night in our own bed before we rang the grandparents the next morning.
we're hoping for another HB before too long (currently TTC)
you can read my birth story and lots more on the homebirth website.
there's a very good yahoo group run by the site owner Angela Horn.
just for info a BPIAB is about £85, but the extra kit (e.g. liner, hose, step, cover) puts the price up to £135. You may be able to buy a second hand pool (or put up but not used pool) from somewhere and can buy an extra liner/kit from the BPIAB site.
