Hi there guys, some help an advise needed please!!

My daughter Sophie is now 10 months old, about a month ago she was diagnosed with Bronchitus, since then she has made a full recovery but still has the odd coughing fit. Lately esp the last week her cough seems to be getting worse at nites, my husband suffers from Asthama and has done since he was a baby.

What are the signs of Asthma, before rushing to get her checked out is there any advice or help anyone can give me, wat are the signs to look out for, she doesnt have any other symptoms apart from a chesty cough at nite, but it doesnt wake her up or cause any discomfort to her, but it is a dry chesty cough, during the day she is fine.

Any help on this girls I would be highly grateful.

Hi Ells,
I have no personal experience of Asthma, but my friend has as 3 of her 4 have it. The youngest being 7 months old, who also recently had Bronchiolitis.
the symptoms are.
Restless sleeping and wakeful due to coughing.
A whistling, rustling or squeaky sound( wheezing) when breathing
Wheezing when the child catches a cold or develops a cough that they cant shake off.

Does you doctors surgery have an asthma clinic?
They would be able to tell you for sure, as its best to get it checked out.
Good luck, hope it just turns out to be a cough and nothing more.

Hi hun
Myself and husband both suffered baby/child asthma and riley got asthamatic wheeze.Still needed the inhalers tho,we had 3 to use as and when needed.
Riley had a constant cough and we were given a green inhaler i think its ipratopium bromide, this was given to him to help shift the mucas off his chest helping the cough.

Get her checked anyway, explain to your g.p.your concerns and they will check her over and help put your mind at rest.

Good luck
Emma

Thanks to you both for your advice and help, Sophie still couldnt shift the cough so we took her for tests and it has been shown she is allergic to dust and has baby asthma, she has been given some inhalers for when it gets bad but in the meantime just have to keep the house dustfree as possible.

It has upset me but at least now we know for sure and can make life easier.

Hi Ells,

The only thing I would suggest is to have your baby checked by a doctor. Sometimes, symptoms themselves are not enough to rule out certain illnesses.

I do hope that it's only a bad cough that will clear with time.

Take care, don't panic and keep us posted.
