Hello all

I've started another mission, hopefully not as complex as the nappy one!

I'm wanting to get a baby sling for when baby moleface arrives (don't ask, it's just the name that stuck!), not the harness carrier type but the hammock / large scarf type ones that carry the baby from newborn up to toddler.

I've just realised from a quick look that there are approximately 9 million different types, do any of you experienced mums have  recommendations / experience?

Thanks muchly

Cat

go for the most natural looking one - if that makes sense. I have a primax - sorry cant remember the name> And it was a pain. But if you look at the ones that the women in the kenyan tribes use and look for ones that mimic that look seem to be the best ones.

The only one I had any success with is the Babybjorn one.It has wide straps that don't cut in,and doesn't give me back ache.I have had it a long while, and don't use it much cos I drive everywhere,so there may be newer, better ones on the market now.

i got a 'freedom sling' a few weeks back, and i think its great, its one of the big fabric ones also known as a 'ring sling'  its fab i use it for hands free feeding lola (so i can type on here lol) and also carrying jack on my hip or back, he seems so light in it because i can keep my back straight. The women who makes them is so helpful and there a huge selection of colours and a few different types, i just have the basic one, £15.99. and its great for both babies! and it came with and instructional cdrom with loads of different ways to use it, pics and explanations! She will also tailor make them if necessary! They really are fantastic!

So can you just get them sort of plugged on,the sling holds them in the right place?

Laura - that is exactly the type I'm looking for.  Do you just use it for bf or do you carry Lola around too?

I think that kind of agrees with what Linz0209 said too.

I have seen the babybjorn, my friend Mel has one and thinks it's great, but there's only one position you can carry the baby in that isn't there?

im still gettin used to bf but weve managed hands free moving around a few times because you can just keep adjusting it however you need, washed up with her feeding, good job noone can see in the kitchen lol! i use it most for feeding when jacks having a mummy day so i can lift him up read books do puzzles etc! its easier each time!!

the main thing i use it for is getting her to sleep have a wander out and dance round the house, she loves it and slept for 3hrs in it first time!!! also great if she kicks off when wee in town it folds up small and pops in baby bag takes 2mins to get her in pull it tight and were off again before jacks fed up!

we do also have a bushbaby and mothercare multiway upright slings, there andrews though i just dont find them comfy, they arent accomadating of boobs!! and take too long to get on me then lola! did use the mc one lots for my sister though loved carrying her facing out walking the dog! but i was 17 and very fit lol!

really strongly recomend freedom slings, if you want advice the lady who created them will talk on the phone or email and help you, shes fab!

i've got one that's very similar to the babybjorn, can't remember what make it is at the mo, but the one that laura's done the link to looks fab and i'm seriously thinking of getting one instead.. as the fixed position at the front is a bit useless and if baby falls asleep with it's head to one side you end up having to hold the head to support it, which doesn't leave you hands free! it was also quite difficult to get on and off easily..

also the freedom sling is a bargain compared to the babybjorn and looks easy to clean.

I've just been looking at her site - I am really impressed, they are so cheap by comparison; I've just seen a similar one on the NCT recommended list for £40!

I might send her an e-mail and ask advice.  Have you got the one for bf Laura, or one of the other types?

The baby bjorn is just upright and not in a useful position if you're trying to get on.Certainly can't feed baby in it.Think I'll be getting one too

i got this one...

considering getting a pink one too lol!

got the lightest one, my buggy and baby bag weigh enough lol!

Lucy my sling just gets chucked in the wash with darks (its black) would recomend putting the rings in a drawstring washbag or something as they are blooming noisy!! also tumble dried it! currently thinking about one of her peapod swaddling things as lola loves being swaddled buts getting a big girl so its not so easy!

No, it's called theBabaSling - looks similar but with some other type of fastening.  I think I'm sold on this lady though, all her feedback is just so positive, and she seems like a concerned parent rather than someone out for a profit!

Jo if you get one you'll have to add your opinions to the post too.  I'm sure that Matilda wouldn't mind trying it out for you

cat before i put lola or jack in i used a big teddy to get used to fitting it and adjusting it! good giggle doing that andrew thought i was crazy, but atleast i didnt tick the kids off messing around with them! My grandma joked about putting her cat in it, shes very old and loves being cradled like a baby lol, i said no tho as andrews allergic thought it would be a bit cruel gettin cat hair on it!

My cat loves being cuddled like a baby - in all honesty I have no idea how I will keep him out of it when I start wearing it, he just wants to be close and fussed over!  He's currently on my feet and keeps peeking round the laptop to see if I'm ready to snuggle him.

My word he's in for a shock when baby moleface arrives...
