I am still breastfeeding my nine and a half month old bubba three times a day and I am not planning on giving up any time soon. However, I'd like to get pregnant with No 2 early next year. She is on 3 meals a day, and I have had my period back for two months. I've done a bit of research online, but I'm a bit worried that I may have trouble conceiving. Do I have to give up feeding?! Does any one have any experience with this?

Hi

Old wives tale that you wont get pregnant while breastfeeding - my babe was 8 months, 4 feeds & solids a day, and no periods either, so should not worry about trouble in that department. Good luck with no 2!

my baby is just 7weeks old, a first timer and this particular topic has been bothering me.i ll like to know if it is safe to have sex without conception since am on exclusive breastfeeding for at least from now till when my baby is six month old.

I would say probally it's not safe. I mean it might be but it depends how much you want to take a risk. If your periods come back then it is probally less safe. I breast fed all of my children for at least a year but I four months I felt I needed a break from them so started solid food. as I weaned them I found my periods returned about 8 months.

You do not have to stop breastfeeding to try and ttc for another baby! - but your breastmilk will change, some breastfeeding babies do not mind this, but some do and will self wean themselves then! - Go for it hun if you want to ttc, but you do not have to stop breastfeeding! - I have a friend who breastfeeds her 2 year year old daughter and few month old baby girl - so thats breastfeeding 2 and she hasnt ever stopped (so didnt stop to get pregnant)and doenst plan to!

Hee hee! How funny! I have now cut down on feeding my lovely girl and I do appear to be a little bit pregnant - but don't tell anyone! I am leaving it a week or two to tell family!

oh no hun! - are you okay?

I'm ok. It's pretty horrible, but I have lovely people to help me - namely my hub and my beautiful bub. It's the most bizarre experience because you never really think it will happen to you. We only had a matter of weeks of getting incredibly excited about the pregnancy whereas some people are unlucky enough to miscarry much further down the line. In that sense I have to think myself lucky. It is truly horrible and I feel for anyone else who has gone through it. It seems that everyone knows someone who has miscarried.

This is my mum's story really - I was three months old and being breastfeed when my mum conceived my brother. We're one year and 10 days apart and I love him enormously. If you want them close together that's one way to do it, but with a little girl just approaching 3 months, I personally can't imagine it!!

I conceived whilst breastfeeding and continued to do so throughout my pregnancy. I am now breastfeeding my 19 month old and 7 week old. It really is very special and I think it has helped my eldest except the new baby. Good luck!

hi...iwas lucky i breastfeed all of my children and didnt concieve whilst doing so, my little girl is nearly one and my period hasnt returned i dont usually start untill around 3 months after i have finished feeding.it just depends on the individuall and whether or not that you are having lots of regular sex.
