Just wondered if anyone had any ideas, the only fruit Kai will eat in chunks is banana. Ive tried giving him apple, pear, grapes but he wont eat any of them! he'l pick them up but wont even try them. Oh and he'l eat raisins but thats it!

He makes me laugh cos at the tots group we go to they give them a bowl of banana and grapes and he eats the banana, puts the grapes on the floor then toddles off and tries to nick my friends little girls banana!

How can I get more fruit into him? i mixed some strawberries in with his rice pudding today which he ate fine.

jacks quite fond of yogurt covered dried fruit, like strswberries or blueberries, its a bit more of a treat but its still all good,

also we chop up fruit ie. apple really small into his muesli or weetabix or porridge.

the way e got jack eating apple was to core it and cut a picture into the skin!

oh and another one, annabelle karmel does a recipe for homemade apricot semolina!

hope this is some help! xxx

I think the only thing to do is just keep trying. it can take ages before they will try something new. Try making fun. Like make them into a train or smiley face. Or just hid them if he still wont eat them. Isabelle is like that and only now shes 4 and you can talk to her normally will she try something new and she is starting to eat carrotts kiwi pineapple and all things she would not even look at before. and the trick is not to make a fuss. Just ignor him if he wont eat it, just says "heres some fruit and be a good boy and eat up its good for you". And leave it at that if you keep trying to force him he will stop altogether.

The less fuss you make the better they usually are. Ayesha never has a problem with anything I give her. I just giver her dinner/ lunch whatever and just say eat up, good girl. and its gone. But I learned the hard way with Isabelle being so fussy.

Yes i agree, just keep on trying. Jd hated banana at first and now its his favorite, i just kept on giving him a bit to try. Also try eating it yourself and then offering some from what your eating, that worked for me too . good luck x

Like Sarah said try eating it yourself and he may well ask for it because it is something you are eating. Hollie loves her fruit and veg so i have no problems with it, but she does prefer whatever i am eating to what she has.

Laura thats really funny, Hollie too is the same and has a right temper if i dont eat what she is giving me. It is not very nice though as it has usually been chewed up by her first, then she wants to swap hers for mine.

We always had problems with fruit with Bridie, now 7 she eats any fruit and has for a long time .Arthur wouldn't eat any fruit till about 2,now he'll only eat apples with the skins off.Arwen will occasionally eat a banana but no other fruit. We try and sneak it in where we can.I give them fresh orange juice once a day.Arwen still eat little pots of fruit called frutapura. She thinks they are pudding. They only contain 100% fruit so they're another of the 5 a day.All you can do is keep offering fruit.,either a piece of yours or if you give them a little plate with a few different finger foods,or mix it in puddings, there's lots of ways to sneak it in.

Hi, how about smoothies or milk shakes and add different fruits to it.

In case you wanted to keep track of the foods that your little one is eating I am in the process of printing a couple of books, one being a food diary.  It's wipe-able to can be used again and again.  Take a look;- www.maxieandteddy.com

Sorry I'm a mum of 2 and trying to earn some cash from selling my books.

The website is currently being updated so bear with it.

Try a little reverse psychology!

I know a family member who has done this and it worked a treat. If you eat something secretly, kids want to try it. My aunt was eating pear and asked her hubby if he would like some, and they kept saying how delicious the pear was and their grandson was watching very keenly. Grandad commented on how delicious the pear was and could he have another slice etc etc. The little boy soon asked if he could try some (he is a little older than Kai) and got the response "oooh i'm not sure of you'll like this, it's grown up food". Needless to say he did want to try it and liked it!!!!

Bronwyn will often eat off my plate but not her own, even if it's exactly the same!!

You could always try smoothies too!

Finally, after many months of eating only frutapura, meant for babies,Arwen has decided to eat fruit.Never thought it would happen, she was far too old to be eating baby food, but she did it .It happens in the end.

Hi all thanks for your suggestions. If Im eating an apple Kai always wants some but hasn't really got the teeth to bite any off, but as soon as i give him smaller pieces of it he doesn't wanna know, even if I eat them too, he picks them up and tries to put them in my mouth! I gave him a bigger bit today so it looked more like a whole apple if that makes sense. He chewed on that for a while but then got bored! We'll get there in the end I suppose.

On a positive note he's doing very well with feeding himself, he eats his porridge on a morning all by himself (makes a huge mess but he's very proud of himself!)

I think Im gonna give the smoothie idea a go, Sean likes them so Im sure Kai will have one if he see's hid dad having one

Luckily he really likes veg, one of his favourites is a carrot aand lentil soup that I amke myself, we had it for lunch today and he wolfed it down as always, he was picking bits of carrot out and putting them in his mouth making lots of Mmmmm noises!

I agree with all the other posts. My three year old has only just started eating solid fruit and can't get enough of it, you name it he'll eat it.

Before that he couldn't stand to have any sort of fruit in his hands or in his mouth. We just gave him smoothies, frutapura and dried fruit, and just kept offering him solid fruit whenever we were having any. Eventually he started to try it, and the next thing I knew he was giving me instructions on what to buy in the supermarket.

Keep at it. He'll come round eventually. I used to get really stressed about it, but it's not worth it. Great that he eats plenty of veg. Still part of his 5 a day and better for his teeth than fruit anyway.

 Good luck.

Jacks
