Ok this is the situation in my house, we have a very small 2 bed terrace, 2 year old ds has his own room, 6 month old dd is currently in with us, dp works nights so is in bed during the day, dd is not sleeping thru yet as i think she is used to napping on my lap during the day, stressed mummy needs ideas how i can get her into some sort of routine without disturbing the rest of the house xx

you need to get her into a routine that has times for food, play and sleep and i think that to solve your sleep problem there will have to be some disturbance to the rest of the house. This was my routine when my little one was 6 months.
6.00am 7oz bottle formula
9.30am breakfast-cereal + beaker milk
11.00am in cot for sleep approx 2 hours
1.30pm lunch
3.00pm nap in buggy during school pick up approx 1 hour
5.00pm dinner
6.30pm bath
7.30pm 7 oz bottle formula
8.00pm bedtime
With this routine she slept from approx 8.15pm till 6.00am I always put her down while awake. occasionally she would sleep in her buggy during the morning school run but only for about half an hour.
I hope this gives you an idea of what you could do because once she sleeps through she won't need lots of naps during the day.

Hi Mummyxtwo my hubby also works nights and we have a 6mth baby boy, this is his routine,
7.30a.m 6oz bottle and bowl of cereal
9.30a.m 1 hr nap on settee (make a 'nest' of cushions and dont leave him!)
12noon 6oz bottle,dinner,pud & beaker of water
2p.m 1 hr nap on settee (again dont leave him)
3.30p.m 6 oz bottle
5.30p.m dinner
6p.m bath,story 6oz bottle
7p.m bed.
He has had this routine since about 3mth old and he sleeps straight through although i do change his nappy before i go to bed as its a long time for him.
Also he seemed to sleep better at night when he started eating proper food.We live in a bungalow also and hubby has never been woken up by little man making a noise, perhaps you could bath the 2 lo's together and put the baby to bed, read your toddler a story and then put him to bed,Hope this helps,

it's not as straight forward if the baby is breast feeding although i do agree. routine is vital.
