Hi, can anybody give me some advice on what is best to buy to carry my baby around? we don't know what to look for and we find brands that seem to sell the same product with a £200 difference!!! Any advice is welcome!

Hi
You need to think about what you want out of your pushchair. I have a mate who is onto her 4th pushchair / pram for the 1 baby and another mate who bought 5 or 6 before she found the one that she liked.
I knew I wanted a carrycot style pram and so my options were slightly more limited, although I got the one I really wanted and had always liked. I have a mamas and papas 8 in 1 which will be good to use until my little girl is 3.
If you use the car a lot and never walk then a travel system might be worth a look.
In my experience 3 wheelers need to have a moveable wheel at the front to make it easy to steer. My friend has one with a fixed wheel and its a nightmare to move!

Sorry for the essay!!

From my own experience don't buy the three wheeler travel system, i had a Mothercare urban travel system, its ok to keep at home but not for putting in the boot of the car as it's to heavy and really hurt my back, also its to big for going around town!

Like Caroline i also wanted a carrycot style pram and bought the mamas and papas 5 in 1. We live in a very rural location and it's been great for going on long walks with Cameron. The only problem we've had is it fills the boot of the car leaving no room for shopping, so i had to buy a smaller pushchair to use when we go out in the car.

Dawn, I got round that problem by buying a bigger car! We got a Zafira based on my choice of pram!!!!!!
I too live in a rural (ish) area by the sea and as I like having walks I wanted something to keep my little one cosy!

I didn't bother with a moses basket, Bronwyn slept in the carrycot. She sleeps in there if we stay overnight anywhere. For me, it was a good practical choice!

I read an article about babies bone development being affected by the position they are in. Being sat in a car seat isn't good for their growth and posture. Its far better for them to lay down.

Hi - best advice I can give is to list what you need from a buggy - do you want to only use it for walking, or do you need to fit it in the boot of a car, or on the bus? Where do you plan on storing it, are there restrictions on space or do you live up a flight or two of steps, like in flats or on a hill? Do you want a travel system or something more basic? Bear in mind that babies under six months should spend only a maximum of two hours a day in a baby carrier / car seat. Take your list to a good shop and see what the sales people suggest.

Personally I went for a Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette P3 (to give it its full title) as it folded well and stood up on its own whilst folded. It fitted in both cars, didn't weigh that much and converted with a simple zip from a pram to a buggy. The matching car seat, bought separately, clips onto the frame without removing anything. I did get a second buggy, a Quinny Zapp for travelling with as it is compact and fits in overhead lockers on planes so no waiting at the baggage carousel! I am pregnant with number two and although I keep looking whistfully at new prams I know that I really don't need one, mine is perfectly OK and still does what I need it to.

Enjoy the search, but do your homework else you'll only end up wasting money and buying another.

hi there,
welcome to pp. i can only echo what the others have said. just think carefully about what you really need. also, go into some shops to try them out, i found that useful when we got our double buggy (our first buggy was bought for us on te birth of our first child, so we didnt really try many out), but i think its quite important.

hope you find your perfect buggy soon

I would agree with what Nicolette said and then go and try a few in toys-r-us and mothercare but don't buy any!!!! Decide which you like the best by road testing them in the main stores and then go buy the same one from a 'good' ebay shop for a fraction of the price.

agreed Boo, when we bought our phil and teds, it was from ebay, there was NO WAY we could afford a new one. we got the whole system, double seat and covers etc for less than half price.

I tried to submit a thank you note before but it seems it didn't do it.
Your advice is very valuable at the moment. N problems for car boot space, just wanted a 3 wheeler because it seems more manageable. Will definitely check in stores first and then get it online.
Any advice for infant car seat? it seems Isofix is the safest but i don't know.

Hi all,
Finally went to the shops and had a look, I didn't like most of what I saw, for car seats the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix seemed the most comfortable so I went home and ordered for a tenner less than in the shops (I checked over 15 sites!).
The prams and pushchairs where huge and really heavy and there was very little choice on the 3 wheelers.
Then i started looking for the so wanted 3 wheeler on the net too. Woke up this morning realising that what I need is a pushchair or pram that faces me or that can face both front and rear, but where are they? can you advice on this?

H8iya i have a mamas amd papas pram system which comes as a chasys that holds the car seat carry cot or buggy and all of these can sit facing the front or rear i have been thrilled with it and useed it for both of mine. We got ours from kiddiecare which has a store in peterborough or can be ordered online and we saved over £100!

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty much decided now, I'm going for the Hauck infinity pushchair and carrycot, I think is the cheaper option for what I want. XXX
