after being referred to the dietician as being allergic to dairy products at the age of 5 months my son is now 7 and a half months and i still don't have an appointment. They are supposed to be helping me with the weaning - so he has a good non- dairy diet - great hey...he'll be on bloody steak dinners before i get the chance to find out what he should be having! Sorry....needed a moan.

Hi Boo,

Get in touch with the person who made the dietician referral, was it your GP? Hassle them and explain the amount of time you have waited etc, if you really push it normally you get results

Takecare love jd_mummy xx

Yes -the Gp did make the referral and he did say it would be 'some time' before we had the appointment and I stupidly did not ask what that meant. . May go and see my health visitor and see if I can get her on the case - she's a nasty old biddy and irritates the hell out of me but she gets results and if she can hassle me so much she may have better luck.

Hi Boo
Any sign of the appointment yet?

You're not going to beleive this, Amber was referred to a dietician last week when the consultant heard she was having more difficulties then yesterday an appontment came for tomorrow!!!

Have managed to find childcare but can't believe how quick it was, i wonder if she went as an emergency as she can't eat at all?

We were allowed to choose which hospital around us we wanted to use and we chose Banbury as although we'd never been there it has a great reputatuion and it's definately living up to that at the moment! I'll let you jknow how we get on.

I really hope your appointment comes very soon xx

boo, my friends daughter has no anmial products at all, so thats no dairy. i'll ask her what she's been through as it may be a little helpfull for you. think things depend on how bad the lactose introllance is. as things like choc and bread can sometimes be bad.
i take it she's just having soya and fruit and veg for now? rice is also a good source for milk's and carbs. dairy isn't the worst one to cut out of your diet so don't worry to much and i hope that appiontment comes throught soon. it normaly takes about 2-3mths to see someone at our end.

finally got the appointment for mid-november! Great! BUT he's been eating solids for over 4 months and this appointment was supposed to be advising me what to give him to eat! Stupid really. Bloody NHS.

Really glad it's finally come through Boo. I hope it helps and maybe you'll be able to introduce him to some new foods!

Hi Boo. Glad you got your appointment through. To defend the NHS, and I rarely do that, the dieticians are extremely busy these days due to the number of obese children they have to deal with. I had go to and see one several times with Bon for the opposite reason and on two occasions she rang me and we did a consutlation over the phone as it was quicker than waiting for a face to face appointment. The one I saw in London was great and I really had no complaints. We also have community dieticians in our area who are more easily accessible and you can self-refer to them, maybe see if this is a viable alternative?

Would self-referral be any quicker than a doctors referral? My Dad works for the NHS at salisbury hospital so I have'nt really got a big hatred for them but it is just really annoying when you really need to know what to feed your children and the GP has no idea. It's such a shame the government initiative for healthy food in schools does not seem to be working.
