Morning girls.... professionals recommend to start weaning at 6 months! Have anyone started earlier? If so how did it go and did you talk to your health visitor first????

I might start at 4 months... just at breakfast time with baby porridge? what do you think???

Morning
I started Jessica at about 4months, i did not talk to my hv as they always say not to!
I had to start giving her baby porridge for breakfast and i used to give her a little bit at tea time as well, as she was taking 8oz of milk every 2hrs!
Do what you think is right x

i started isaac at 9 weeks as he wasnt keeping milk down and was starting to lose weight. a health visitor will tell you not to wean before 6 months. isaac took to it really well and when we got a diagnosis of milk intollerace from the hospital dietitian she said to carry on with the solids to help keep his weight up.

Jack was 13 weeks old when I weaned him, he was so ready Charl was 16 weeks. Both times I never told the hv I just did it as my instinct told me they were ready.

Enjoy the mess!!!!

It always used to be 4months. When I had tom it was 4months so I was surprised the 'guidelines' had changed to 6. All babies are different and hvs too. I openly said I would wean before 6months, I think they say not before 17 weeks as their digestive system needs to mature. They need to be able to hold their head up too really. Every baby and family is different. Once they are unsatisfied with milk feeds you know when its time. Don't feel pressured though to start just because everyone else is. As long as no family history of allergies then do what you feel is best.

I started jsd at 4 months as was so hungry and milk wasn't filling him up. I started by giving him some flavoured baby rice for breakfast and he loved it, then we just moved on from there, good luck and hope your lo enjoys it!

I started Hollie at 5 months, my hv was dead set against giving her anything before she was 6 months. But she was so ready and was wearing me out feeding every 1.5hours night and day. Just watch for signs, like waking at night when he used to sleep through, milk no longer being enough etc.

The guidelines here are 17 and a half weeks if necessary but recommended to wait until 6 months. My hv did tell me though that if you do start weaning early to do it slowly, whereas if you do wait until 6 months it progresses a lot quicker and you dont have to spend so long on purees and baby rice.

I started stephen at 8wks as he was a very hungry baby just on baby rice, i started christopher at 5months i was told to hold off as long as possible as he was milk intolerent i was quiet lucky as he out grew it at a 1yr old, mollie was just over 5mnths when i weaned her but didnt want it before then as she was happy with her milk and abbie i started at 17wks but she came down with a cold and didnt want any so i stopped it and restarted at 5mnths as milk wasnt enough for her and she had stopped sleeping through the night
do what you think if you think your baby is ready then do it i told my hv but she is lovely and i have had her for the last 3 children

My own 'personal' opinion and isn't meant to offend anyone is that babies shouldn't be weaned before at least 6mths. The nutrition they get from food is very minimal as opposed to milk either breast or formula.

I left my ds3 and he went straight to finger foods, I have never mushed a thing up for him at all.

As I said this is my own personal opinion and not meant to offend

Katelin was quite late at 8 months as she had no interest in food and was'nt waking earlier and seemed quite content and was putting on weight.
I think it was because she was on a lactose free formula then changed to SMA Gold at around 5 months so I think it was the change in formula that filled her up and kept her satisfied. I think if I had left it longer she would have been fine with that too. I only put her on solids because she was getting on for 9 months and I was starting to worry. She was'nt a particulaly small baby, neither was she big, she just didn't have much of an appitite. And she still dosen't eat large amounts now at 2.

You should trust your instincts and do what you feel is right for you and your baby.
