Well done you Claire, i really admire you.

Go for it if thats what you want to do.
I also had a few probs with Niamh but all in all it was a sucessful labour and quite short, so my midwife tried to encourage me to have a home birth, half me wanted to, but the other half wanted the security of having the medical equipment around if needed.!!

I think if you feel thats what youd like then go for it, they say its just as safe as giving birth n hospital.

If you decide to go for it, let me know how it goes, as i still wonder what it would have been like!!

whatever you decide has to be right for you

take care and keep us updated!

Hi Claire,

I hope the pregnancy is going well.

I'm sure with it being your second pregnancy you will be able to have a home birth providing the pregnancy goes ok. Jack's delivery was complicated so by choice I chose to have Charlotte in hospital but they did try to convince me on a home birth saying it's more relaxing and less stressful. And if it happens in the middle of the night you haven't got to get Robert off to someones house before you go to hospital!!

I think if it's what the mother wants and it's safe then it's a lovely thing to do. I'm sure your midwife will support you.

Take care, Zoe xx

i did forget to mention robert needed that recuss table, but only for oxygen if i remember rightly

but i still want a home birth cause it might not happen again, as every pregnancy and labour is different isnt it

i have the midwife on 3rd feb, so will discuss it with her

I don't see why you should not have a home birth if that is what you want, as long as everything is ok with your pregnancy i can't see the problem!

Also as you have already said no two pregnancys are the same.

Hi Claire,

I also had the resuss unit in with me when Jack was born as he was getting distressed but fortunately didn't need it. My labour with Charlotte was problem free and if I ever go on to have a third, although that is highly unlikely, I would also consider a home water birth.

Discuss it with your midwife, but if it's what you want I don't see any reason why you shouldn't.

Hi Claire. I really don't see why anyone would say you were silly for wanting a home birth. I would like one but I think it is out of the question now. I was told that as long as this pregnancy went OK there was no reason other than staffing levels why I shouldn't have one. I really liked the idea, it meant that I didn't have to figure out when to go to the hospital, less concern about babysitter for Bon, no packing of hospital bag, no MRSA or C Diff. Where's the issue?!

Zoe was born not breathing and needed a crash team and stayed in SCBU for a week. I had a long labour with her and needed lots of internal stitches. I had SPD with Ethan and a thought labour would be very painful - yes it hurt to lift my leg but I was in hospital less than an hour before giving birth to Ethan and was pushing in the car before I got there! I had no stitches and think it would have been no trouble at home as I only had gas and air for 45 mins. I don't think you can go on what your previous labours have been like unless you had a c-section - which you did'nt. With Zoe I had a nasty infection from the hospital so I would defiantely consider having a baby at home if I had a third - go for it!

Go for it! I had one planned for my second (Jack) but he arrived four weeks early so I had to go in to hospital. Everyone told me I was nuts but I knew what i wanted! (my argument was that the air ambulance had landed in my street before! That shut them up quickly!
I'm a total believer that birthing at home is much less sttressful (and less painful) for you. As a society we have become so programmed to give birth in hospital with doctors and midwives that we don't know, bright lights and time scales, need I go on?! Birth is the most natural thing in the world and should be done in the most comfortable environment! A fantastic book to read is 'Ina May's Guide to Childbirth'( a lady otherwise known as the 'hippy midwife'! She became a midwife by default on a hippy commune (stick with me, I'm not nuts, or a hippy for that matter!). it just gives you lovely stories of natural births away from hospitals.
Good luck and STICK TO YOUR GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Claire

I would have loved home births with all three of my babies, but unfortunatley it wasn't to be due to me having group B strep. The one thing that was foremost in my mind though was what happens if things dont go to plan. The homebirth midwives carry oxygen with them. But you should consider things like how long it would take to get to hospital if you or your baby needed help that the midwife couldn't provide. Not that there is any reason to think that you would but just consider all sides. But i dont think your mad for wanting a home birth. xx

Hi Claire,
I was booked for a home birth with my son, William who's nearly 3 now. This was booked even with the knowledge that I suffered high blood pressure during labour with my daughter Sophie. The only thing I had to agree to was that at the 1st sign of any problems, I would agree to being taken in.
I had been having twinges for about 3 hours when the midwife arrived, took my blood pressure immediatly and I just knew before she said anything that I had to go in. I now believe that if I had gone in to a pool sooner, my blood pressure would have stayed down and I may have been able to stay at home.
It all worked out though as the midwives were so sympathetic that I had wanted a completely natural home birth that they pulled some strings and got me in a birthing pool....Wow!! It was the best experience of my life, so much calmer than the 1st time and the water took the edge off the contractions so much that I had no idea that I was fully dilated!!
William was born with only 3 pushes and despite being 8lb 10oz with a huge head(!) I had no tears which the midwife said was thanks to the water!
Definately push for it if it's what you want as just because things were difficult last time, doesn't mean thjat it will be the same this time and would be a shame to miss out on such an experience if it's possible!
Good Luck!

Hi Claire

I'm due in 3 weeks and going for a home hypnobirth (www.hypnobirthing.co.uk).  Home births are statistically less likely to need intervention, take much less time and quicker to recover from.  Plus you've got all your own stuff around you and your partner isn't sent home directly after the birth!  Having siad that, the fact that we are only ten minutes away from the hospital is pretty reassuring, not sure i'd be so happy if we were miles away?

I think the same as the others,as long as you feel ok with it and no prob in pregnancy then go for it.

The midwives do have their bag of tricks with them if needed.

I would love a home water birth secondtime round but just no adi would never agree to the idea.

Best of luck and hope your midwife is helpful for you.
