I am new on here, not long found out i was pregnant and its a HUGE surprise but me and my partner are extremely happy.
I thought that because this is my first and I do not know a lot about pregnancy as yet (though constantly scouring the internet in panic since I found out!) that it would be nice to set up a thread for anyone who should be in the same boat as me and is getting confused over what they can and cannot eat.
To start off a couple of maybe wierd ones which are am i allowed lemon sole (fish) and philidelphia cheese?
Any help would be appreciated!!

Although its my 3rd pregnancy i appear to have forgotten everything, or perhaps its just that i was young and didnt worry nearly as much!!!
Im pretty sure that u can eat lemon sole but maybe double check! Think it depends on mercury content, i dont eat fish so not really up on that one! Raw meats are off the menu, anything rare should be avoided, raw eggs sounds mad coz who really eats raw eggs but sometimes they are used in mayonnaise and homemade icecreams, any soft cheeses are a no go like brie and feta etc i think philadelphia might come under this? Liver is to be avoided, like pates etc hmm cant really think what else but hope its of some use to you

yeah i know the feeling, there is so much info out there its hard to take it all in! I think the best thing to do is try to stick to 1 or 2 websites and dont get caught up with all the american ones out there as alot of the info on them relates to living in america and antenatal care there which is different to uk/ireland. i just had a look at the nhs website and they have a cool pregnancy desktop thing which im downloading now heres the link...

im laura, mum to jack 2.5 and lola 14mnths!
Philadlphia is fine, MOST althought there maybe a few that arent, shop brought dips/mayos etc are fine, its homemade ones you need to check on, phili is ok because its processed, or so my midwife said, i had a hug craving for the garlic and herb one when pregnant with lola.
Fish is ok to, just keep an eye on mercury levels, i know you must limit to one tin of tuna a week!

Funny you say that morvellou because i saw the same desktop app and i have it on my comp already, Its quite scary looking at the picture that comes up and realising that the same baby is in your tummy - or maybe that is just me!! Haha! Dont think it has sunk in yet that i have a baby in my stomach!
I was asking about the fish because its my dad's birthday next week and we are all going to a fish restaurant (unfortunately!) so a lot of the things on the menu i knew i could not have (or maybe should not have) from looking on the internet but wasnt sure about that one.
So marvellou how far along are you? You have any names picked out yet? Me and my partner had a wee chat last night about names but arent getting very far with it, luckly we have plenty of time (i hope! havent been to the docs yet - its a bit tricky, long story but should hopefully get to meet with one this week!).

Firstly congratulations! What a lovely suprise!
There are loads of foods everyone tells you to stay away from but my friend has just found out she's 5.5 months pregnant and she's been drinking coffee, eating shellfish and soft cheese throughout! That said, I think it's better to stay away from the usual ones;
Unpasturised and blue cheese
Shellfish and sushi
Anything with sweeteners
Uncured meets and anything rawor undercooked
