We never got a cot bed for Isabelle and im starting to think she is getting a little big for her cot as it's much narrower than a cotbed. She is nearly 18months,it that too young to move her in to a toddler bed?

Also should I put a safety gate on her bedroom door??(we have one at the top of the stairs) and Finally! what are the best type of beds to go for??

I would be most grateful for any advice

Thank you

Isabelle was 2 when she moved into a bed. But she could have gone sooner. I think as long as they can get off and on the bed safely and walk then the rest is doen to judgement. I used a bed rail for about a year they are about £20 and I got a pink one from Argos. Belle loved it as it had pockets on she could put her little nik naks

We put ours straight from cot to bed at about 2,but only because we had the next baby wanting the cot.Arwen's got to stay in her cot cos we just don't have the space for another bed.Just have to watch out when they learn to climb out.Cot side is obviously higher to fall from than bed.Ididn't have a rail, but put the cot mattress at the side of the bed for the next few weeks while they learnt where the edge of the bed was. They soon get used to a bed.I'd leave her as long as you canthough cos at least when they're in a cot they can't go walkabout in the night.

Hi Jen,

As long as you are happy to put Izzy in a bed, you know your child best, that's all that matters. Jack was in a bed at 14 months old as the little monkey learnt how to climb out of the cot. I was worried he'd fall so took the sides off. I did have a gate on the door though. Charlotte was 22 months old when we put her in a bed. Again it was the right time for her.

As for the bed, Charl has got the Ikea extendable bed. It is fab. A few of us on here have got these beds. They are low to the floor so if they were to fall there isn't far to go!! They are a reasonable price too.

xx

Erin learnt to climb out of the cot at a year. She was a monkey girl.Trouble was she climbed out her cot,up her brother's bunk bed ladder and onto a wardrobe to play with toys.First thing we heard was a crash at four o'clock in the morning.Fortunately there was a beanbag next to the wardrobe and she was unhurt, but after that she slept with reins on for about ayear. There's always a bit of a safety worry once they can get out.You can't watch them when you're asleep.Arwen's cot is just a cot,one of the small ones.I was looking tonight at how big she was in it.She can still stretch out and it's full of teddies.Depends on the size of the baby.

I agree with Mel, Ikea has really nice beds for tods. They have beds that have a railing on the sides thatare adjustable, I'm not sure but I think i saw that on a paper somewhere.  Good luck
