hi everyone,
i've just joined this website and am hoping that someone can help!
i've a beautiful baby girl who i am still breastfeeding at 11mths old. however, due to complications, i need to begin trying for a second baby asap - probably by march... because of breast feeding, i still haven't had my periods restarting and therefore have no idea if/when i'm ovulating.

because of the circumstances surrounding conception, i am only able to get 'one' shot at conceiving a second baby and therefore i'm not able to keep trying as much as i want!

has anyone any advice on what i should do?

any help would be great.

thank you
x

Hello and welcome to PP!
I'm Tasha mum of two.
AS far as conceiving whils breastfeeding, it shouldn't prevent it as your daughter is 11 months and therefore on solids as well. As far as i've been told (i'm currently training to be a breast feeding peer counsellor) you only stop ovulating when you are exclusively breastfeeding as soon as you introduce any other form of food conception is possible.

It may well be worth you investing in some ovulation kits so that you can make sure you are giving it the best chance!

I wish you lots of luck x

If I were you I would wait until your daughter is 12 months old and then give up breast feeding as she can then have a cup of cows milk ( or soya ) instead of breast milk or formula. I did'nt start my periods until 2 months after I gave up breast feeding with my first child. Which can be great but is also a pain if you want to concieve.

Hi - welcome to PP. I am not sure if the 'you can't conceive whilst breast feeding' thing is true, a neighbour of mine was told that by her doctor and was pregnant again within four months. I know of others who have done the same so it isn't always right. Have you asked your doctor for tests to check that you are def not ovulating? They can do blood tests to tell, as well as you doing the basic temperature check to see if you are. If you really only have the one shot at it, tests surely have to be the way forward to ensure that you know when you ovulate to give yourself the best chance.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

hi and welcome. i'm kristy and i'm 6 weeks pregnant, i'm also still breast feeding my 10mth old daughter nicole.
so i'm living proof you can do it.
i did how ever know my cycle inside out and fell pregnant 1st time i tried, just took that one go really.

when my periods returned it took 3mths for my cycle to be back to the normal 28 days. i have also herd it can take a year after you finish breast feeding in some cases for your periods to return.
all i can say is give her the year wean her and take it from there. if you need any help on signs of what to look for when your ovualting gis a shout. it is possable to ovualte when you don't have periods, but as a rule of thumb, no periods no ovulation. of course don't forget you will of course ovuatle before your periods restart, so you could fall pregnant before you know it.
good luck anyway.
kristy
