but morphology and motility aren't great

He's been given forms to go for another test, the doc says he's seen "chaps" have one not great result, and then one perfectly normal result, but that didn't make hubby feel any better

Poor OH Gypsy, that must be tough to take even with the doctor's encouraging words. We're not quite at that stage yet but I keep thinking it must be a problem with me as I'm the one monitoring ovulation and I'm the one who used birth control hormones for 12 years so I know my OH is not really thinking about his side of things. I did warn him he'd have to make a deposit for a SA and he laughed! Apparently when he was little he had an operation on his testicles as they didn't drop properly. The nurse told his mum he was producing 'fine swimmers'! She's one of those mothers that probably asked!!

I hope he's doing ok and that you are ok too. It must be tough to be supportive of him at the same time going through the whole long-term ttc stuff. Let us know how he does in his other test and fingers crossed you get that BFP regardless. You just need one good one!!

    Hey Gypsy,
try not to worry ....... but I know that's easy to say. Apparently it is completely possible to have one rogue result and when the test is redone, the result is better,

Can I just ask how you get your results back? If you remember, my OH dropped his sample off a week or so before yours and I don't really know how to go about getting the results. We were reffered from the fertility clinic in the hospital.

Hope you and your OH are doing ok this evening, give him a big cuddle, it might just be a random bad sample

    Take care
    Welsh

Hi Gypsy, my OH recently had is SA results back too. His morphology (thats the shape of them right?) is a little below average but the dr said that by no means should stop us from conceiving just might contribute to why its taken a little longer. OH was a little upset at first but is fine now. Just remember it only takes one!! Good luck hun.xx

Hi chick hopefully the poorer result is from a month when he had a abit more to drink etc as its 90 days before when that sperm was made. Hopefully he'll get another good one and even if it doesn't come back as well as expected they can start to do something about it for you.

Good luck - must be hard for the OH they are so macho about their swimmers arent they totally understandable I sometimes feel like I'm a failure coz my body won't get pregnant as I'm sure we all do, wrong to do but you cant help it,

Let us know how he gets on at next one xx

Thanks girlies moonbeam, I said it could have been all the drinking over Christmas etc that didn't help!

welsh, we were referred by the GP to the hospital. The results were sent back to the GP's and I called them to find out when they were back and we made an appointment there (saw a nicer doc than we had previously so I might go back to him instead).

I have reminded him that it only takes one

Gypsy - Sorry that you are feeling a bit down at the moment

I notice that you are so lovely and supportive to others on here so just wanted to say that we are all here for you too when things aren't going so well. Good idea to have more tests and I really hope that they come back positive.

    Hey Gypsy
OH has one borderline (number) and one way off morphology. We managed to increase the number aspect however it takes a minimum of 72 days to show improvement apparently so don't let OH loose heart too early

    Thankyou smileychops, that's lovely

j-jenko, thanks chick. The docs won't do anything for me until I get to a BMI of 30 - which is ages away - so he has plenty of time to try to improve his sperm. But it may be a good idea to hold off these tests for a few weeks. Thanks

oh honey sorry it was a great result but we had the same problem of one being a bit off but 2 others being fine. Sometime silly things can upset the results so don't loose heart

Get hubby to eat some brazil nuts, zinc, vitamin C- he could also try taking milk thistle which is a good detox vitamin to keep you liver healthy so when he does drink it clears quicker as does any other toxins.

keep up the PMA honey we've both been on here long enough now this is OUR YEAR!!!!!

My oh has his repeat detailed analysis on the 12th, we will get the results on the 24th when we go back to the fertiltiy clinic.
Really hoping for better results as he stopped drinking started dieting and excercing, as well as taking supplements, so he really is doing everything he can!
hope you get better results next time, they did say to us that it is possible to get a rouge result.

    Hi,

I've just joined and thought I'd share a bit of positive news. My hubby had his first SA in November (we've been trying for a year without success) and although the count and motility were fine, he was told the morphology was poor (5% normal), which was probably the reason we weren't conceiving.

He has just had his second one after following a 3 month plan of taking lots of vitamins, cutting right back on alcohol, no hot baths, no caffeine and a more healthy diet. The morphology is now 11% normal and the count has also improved even further - so it can be done!

The doc has now said that with this result there is no reason we can't conceive naturally - and if we do need treatment, we can now consider IUI rather than IVF/ICSI.

I'm feeling very proud of him - and a lot more positive.

One thing that springs to mind about SA results

When we went to our first IVF presentation lecture at the unit which was do & donts. The ususal suspects were mentioned. stop smoking, and keep to weekly limits with the booze (this is the one we have to watch but hubbie did really well ) .
The one the really emphasised was cannabis being really bad for sperm quality. Worse than cigarettes. Its not something we do so not a problem for us but I thought it worth mentioning as a lot of people think it is quite herbal and harmless if you know what I mean. But not for TTC apparently
perhaps they are so chilled they stop swimming....

    X
