Hi girls, you may have read a previous post where I mentioned that I have to reapply for my job because my company has merged with another.

Anyway, I am not hopeful of getting the job. My company can put me in another job that they deemed 'suitable' if I don't get the job or they can make me compulsory redundant. Their choice although as agreed with the Union they have to try and find me an alternative role. Trouble is, I only started my current role 9 months ago and left my previous role because I HATED IT WITH A PASSION!! Made me really upset and forever coming home in a bad mood. And that job would be considered 'suitable' because of pay etc etc so they could ask me to go back.

The thing is, if I don't get the job and they offer me redundancy I will get around ??28K plus I have insurance to pay mortgage of ??900 per month for twelve months. If I don't get the job and they ask kme to go back to the old one (not sure whether they will or not) and I refuse, they will give me around ??6K. Or, the other alternative is to ask for voluntary redundancy and I would get the ??28K but my insurance wouldn't pay out.

I really want to retrain as a Science Teacher - completely different to what I do now! It would mean two years of doing a Science degree, followed by another year of PGCE (although I would get a bursary of ??9K for that year because it's Science) but then I would be in a job that would suit me so much better.

Obviously, the main trouble is the massive drop in income. I would have to use my redundancy to cover me for two years and to buy a car and to pay for the courses. I currently earn ??35K so it's quite a drop but I would be happy to do it and the thought of being a Teacher when we have a LO is very appealing.

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!! So confused! I'm not sure if any of the above makes sense but I hope it does. What would you do in my situation? Stay in a job I can't stand but that pays pretty decent money or take the risk of getting out of work, retraining and going for the Teacher's job?

And I have to decide by tomorrow!!

Thanks for reading and SOOO sorry it's such a long post! My head is spinning and has been for a week now!

    xxxx

not a word of a lie - I came back from maternity leave and was made redundant that day, due to this I retrained as a teacher and I love it, I already had my degree in Business so just had to do my pgce, sometimes things seem like they are negative when they are actually a positive as they give you the kick up the bum to make the change. Also as you dont have any kids yet (I'm assuming I am right here?) you could work part time soewhere for a bit of extra cash, also you can get a lesser paid job in the meantime, if you are continuously employed and do fall pg you would still be entitled to stanard mat pay so would be something to keep you going?

Not sure where you are on fert route would need to look back but if youa re on a long waiting list would get on the ball now, I had son and went back to uni 13 days later (it was hell) also studying pgce with him was hard too, now doing a numeracy course to teach this and I tell you I am done with study and going to enjoy my family more although worth it as have job i love good pay, good hours, good hols etc good luck whatever u decide xx

I know this is a total cop out but i dont know what i would do in your position, its something only you can decide. like MB says a teacher job would be great for when you have kids. However good luck with whatever you decide and go with your heart! xxxx
