I had a dress fitting for my sisters wedding today. When we ordered the dress in February I had lost 6 pounds and told the lady I was looking to lose at least another stone. Well I have lost a further stone and a half since the fitting so I was a little excited today. However the dress hardly looks any different  I don't understand it I have dropped a clothes size in my other clothes. The other bridesmaid has lost no weight at all and the dress was snug on her too yet my mum is going on and on about letting the dress out and ordering more material in front of my sister, the other bm, sisters MIL2B. I just about held it together but cried all the way back to the train station. I just don't understand I have worked SO hard

Why is life SO FLIPPIN UNFAIR!

Aw socks dont be too disheartened. Those dresses are not made to fit real people. When I was trying dresses on for my own wedding I was struggling to get some size 16 to fasten up and im a small 14!!
I bet the dress looks stunnigand im sure you look great for your brilliant weight loss, you may have lost a lot from your face and arms and this will make you look much slimmer too
As long as you are comfortable in the dress thats all that matters and you say your other clothes have gone down a whole dress size. That is a brilliant achievement and you have done so well to loose 2 stone X

yeah, socks its obviously the cut of the dress, dont worry about it, you have done sooooo well, i wish i had your determination, i on the other hand have actually put on a stone and 1/2 since Oct last year...

i really really need to sort it out..its getting me down... back to the gym for me next month, ive not been all spring/ summer!

Just remain pleased with eveything you have done... and im not trying to sound like one of those people who say dont lose too much cos they are actually jealous and want you to remain fat, but just dont forget all that you have done.. i had a very close friend who did so well, lost nearly 5 stone over 2 years, but eventually used to panic over a pound or 2 gain now and again, and she would start saying she was fat when she was actually a very healthy and lovely size 12 and used to be a size 18/20... i just wished she could be happy with her weight loose and not go so silly...

Just wanted to say thats not what i think you are doing, just want to say you should be giving yourself a big pat on the back, like Looby says, i bet you'll look great.

    Skinny chin up now,

    Gem x

Did they maybe order a smaller size, knowing you were going to lose more weight?

I agree with what LoobyLoo said - wedding/bridesmaids dresses are not made to fit real people sizewise

You've done so very well so far - don't be too discouraged by silly things your mother said x x

Socks if I were you I would be so proud of the fact that you've lost so much weight. Congratulations hun. That's brilliant.
Don't let your mum get you down.... I bet you looked lovely in that dress. And besides...those dresses are not made according to REAL woman's sizes.

Don't be down hun! Well done! You did great!!!!!!

Oh hon, I agree those dress sizes for BMs are so not real. I had to take all my measurements to send to my friend to order my dress and according to the size chart it worked out that I needed a size 18 and Im a size 12! Bit of a difference!!

So ignore the size on the tag and just get the dress fitted to your shape and size so that you are comfortable. Even if it means letting it out a little. Also hon, you might be a little bloated at the mo (or hopefully pg!) if you are due in a week. I would get a lot of fluid retention.

As for your mum's comments, try to put them aside. It was pretty insensitive of her to say that in front of everyone. :\(
    What date is the wedding?

Oh honey, for my wedding recently all my bm had to order the size bigger as we discovered that the sizes are just so small. They are not shop sizes.
Well done for dropping a dress size... don't let this get you down or demotivated! You are doing fantastically and I bet you look stunning regardless of the size.

Hey socks, just wanted to reiterate what the other girls have said. I find it so hard to buy any clothes as I have quite large hips but a small waist. Lucky you might say but I can be anything from a size 10 to a 14 depending on the cut and where I want to wear the clothes e.g. if they are trousers to be worn around the hips then they need to be a 14 for sure!! I have come to realise that dress sizes mean very little!! Plus you will have lost the weight from everywhere which means you have been losing it very sensibly as opposed to crash dieting and are much more likely to keep it off that way.

You should feel very proud of yourself and I bet people have noticed your weight loss. Just ignore your Mum, my Dad constantly tells me what a fat arse I have! He's lucky I love food too much to take it to heart!!

    Hey socks,
My wedding dress was the same as moonbeans, a size bigger than my usual size. Either way it doesn't matter. Your weight loss is fantastic and i bet you look amazing on the day so don't worry. You've achieved a lot so don't let the others get to you.
It must have been so upsetting for you though, I think Mums, wonderful as they are, are sometimes far more insensitive to their own kids than anyone else in the world would be.
Well done for your amazing weight loss and I'm sure you look amazing. x

Thanks girls! I think I overreacted a bit. I was just not ready for the dress not to fit so when it didn't I was a bit shocked. I have spoken to my mum and told her how I felt and she cried! She was so upset that she upset me. She said I had forgotten how much I had lost and I did look really good. The extra material was to lengthen the vanity panel because it was too short and she only wanted them to adjust the seem on the hips to stop it pulling because she thought I would feel better that way. I think everything is just getting a little on top of me again. Wedding is 30th September in Cyprus so we are flying out on the 27th. We have the hen party this weekend! Thanks again for your support xx

socks just to reiterate what the others have said really, wedding/bridesmaids dresses are made by evil people - they're so so small!! I felt really fat when I couldn't squeeze into a size 14 wedding dress (I'm only a 12!!), but me being me ordered the 12 and panicked for 6 months about it not fitting.
You should be really proud of your achievement with your weight loss, I bet you look fab.

They are evil people who make them!!
Here's something to look forward to.. you go DOWN a size in maternity clothes which is just fabulous!! So you have all that to look forward to. The wedding dress makers should take a leaf out of their book!!

Have a fun hens night hon. Only a few weeks til the wedding now. What fun! How quickly it has come around.
