Did anyone have their baby on Christmas Day?
Violet arrived 5 weeks early at 0157am on Christmas Day. She was the first Christmas baby in Ayrshire. There were four of us in labour at the same time and the midwifes and doctors had bets running as to who was going to be first. all the mums in the labour suite were given Christmas gifts from the nursing staff it was really sweet of them. Violet was presened with a huge hamper full of goodies from Boots which was most kind and fortunate for us as she was so unexpected.
We did not even have a vest or nappy in the house. Car seat and crib stillup in the loft from three years ago when Oliver was born. I was only in hospital for 12 hours and home on Chritsmas Day. All is fine now but don't plan on letting Santa bring another one this Christmas. I do feel a wee it sorry for her sharing her birthday with JESUS as his celebrations are going to dwarf any birthday party we can throw for Violet.

    Welcome Karen!

I dont think it matters whether your lo is born on xmas day or around that date! My eldest was born on the 23rd and gets all of what katielou has explained! Alfie was born on the 21st (great timing!) so weve got that to look forward to this year!

That was really nice of your maternity ward. Nothing like a few freebies!!!

    Hi Karen,

Welcome to the site! Sounds like your maternity ward was fab Holly was born on the 15th so hopefuly we will be able to celebrate her birthday before christmas. We intend to give her a "half year birthday" so when she is a bit older she can get outdoor toys for the summer if that makes sense?

my brother was born on 14th and gets all described by katie lou, not by parents though, they were always detemined to not put any decorations for christmas up until after his big day. i think december and early january are tough times for lo's bdays but you could always do like katielou said 50/50 day, failing that shift one of the celebrations to boxing day or christmas eve whichever would work better. i'm considering half birthdays too (lo 3/12) because its a long time to wait for pressies, i think its nice to look fwd to bday and then christmas it breaks the 0yeasr up. my parents always used to give each of us a token pressie no matter whose bday it was in the family which was always fun, and ohs bday is june so a nice halfway mark for a big gift, me thinks. (like i wont spoil him all year haha!)

Hi, Henry was born on xmas eve, so not quite! I've already bought most of his birthday presents and wrapped them as I know how tricky it is to get anything that's not xmas related after December 1st! Sad I know but I like to be prepared! I was upset as I thought he wouldn't be able to have any summery presents like paddling pool, bike, outdoor games etc but we decided that if he gets any birthday/xmas money that we will save it and buy him a summer present in June every year - no fun getting a sand pit in December is it!!

Think xmas babies are lucky as it's a special time of year anyway. Have heard before about celebrating xmas in morning and bday in afternoon - that's a nice idea.

    xx

oh thought i'd add if party is an issue couldn't it just become an end of term thing or a bring the new year in thing once she gets a little older, it spreads out the fun as well so i don't think it would be a disadvantage in that perspective

Welcome Karen! Gracie was born on her due date 10/12/07. Half birthdays are a good idea! My eldest was born 22nd Jan 03, 4 weeks after Xmas which breaks up an otherwise dull time of year! And ds2 3rd Oct 05, so all have 'cold' or freezing birthdays lol.

my birthday in nov and when i was little i used to get all my b'day and xmas pressies plus a bike or something in summer whereas my sisters is in the summer so she usually gets the bike for her b'day. So not all bad ha ha.
Once Rhys is at school I think I'll be doing his parties before they break up for the holidays.

    Hi there.
Amy was born on Xmas Eve and as I had a c-section, we didn't come out of hospital till 27th Dec. Our hospital had 16 babies born Xmas day, it was packed!!!

We've decided to celebrate Amy's actual birthday but will do a half year party/present every year on or around 24th June.

As we're not having her christened we've decided to have a 'Welcome to the World' party for her this summer instead.

I don't want her to miss out on anything but I think when she's older she'll enjoy a birthday on Xmas Eve as it's such a special time of year and everyone is up for a good time - well that's what I'm hoping anyway!

    Hiya
Cole was 22 December (6 days early) and I was still in hospital xmas day and all I got was a lousy xmas dinner! Rubbish!

I'm not sure about half birthdays cause I think it could get confusing, but we will be definately making sure birthday and christmas celebrations stay seperate and I will go ballistic at anyone who tries to combine presents because its just not fair!! I've been laying down the law a bit on that already!!

I've been suggesting that as he wont need 2 lots of presents when he's 1 that people give money for his bank account, and my auntie suggested keeping money to buy toys in summer which I think is a great idea.

I like the idea of a welcome to the world party - we dont want to get COle christened and we've been debating a naming ceremony but don't want to spend a fortune! Hm.. must go discuss it with my poorly sick hubby
