Ok - the past 10 days after dinner before a bath Max has requested his nappy off and to sit on his potty and every evening he has gone on to produce a fine poo for us!! ummmm lovely - no idea where it came from as we have not been thinking about it at all but hey ho all good - he does not want the potty any other time of the day at the moment and he still doesn't seem to care if he is in a dirty nappy at other times but we are just going with it and we'll see what happens next!

BUT 3 things are not becoming an issue:
    1. the potty has to be in EXACTLY the same place or we have screaming habdabs!
    2. we have to read the same stories in the same order and we all have to be presnet for this ritual or habdabs happen
    3. He now has to be starkers naked to be willing to sit on his potty.

Now all of these seem to be hinderances to generalising potty training to toilet and out and about etc etc but do we just go with it for now so he enjoys it and doesn't get stressed or upset by the potty or do we break it now????

    advice v welcome!!!

As we have literally just come out the other side I can offer some advice that may be helpful, may not!

The naked thing - I think that's a good sign! For the first few days Henry ran around naked most of the day (heating right up!) and just went to his potty when I reminded him, he also didn't seem to mind having a wee nappy much but once he'd got the hang of it, he hated it!

I also made a massive fuss of him having boxers just like daddy's so he was really excited about losing the nappy and staying dry.

We are struggling too with the location of the potty - it started off in the lounge and then I've tried to move it into the bathroom but he just get's it and puts it back before having a wee! I think the key may be to just start with the actual toilet or gradually wean him off the potty!

I think seeing as he's wanting to go on the potty then it's def a good sign that he's ready and would be great to just go with it now.

I stayed in for a week and a half so didn't have to worry about dashing to potty whilst out and now he can hold it and wait until we get home!

Also think it's worth sticking to routine with books and he may let you slip it soon, go down to one?

Good luck with it, I'm sure he'll get into the swing of things soon! Will be great to only have one in nappies!

Hiya, sounds like he is definately going in the right direction with the potty training. I think he is maybe just trying to get a bit of control which is why he demands the stuff he does. Brendan can be a bit like this too, makes a huge fuss over silly things at times.
As we live on the one level (until we have converted the lower half of our house anyway) we are just going to go straight with the toilet with Brendan. He has done wee's on it before and is getting more intrigued with it. He has also emptied poo from his nappy into the loo so he has the general idea! I'm going to give it a real go once the weather starts to get warmer so the washing drys faster! I have everything ready - waterproof sheets, thomas boxer shorts, and some of the trainer pants that they feel wet in to start him off. They tend to nappy train really late over here so I may wait until the summer so his nursery don't have to deal with him during the nappy training stage. I have a friend over here who has a nearly 5 year old still in nappies!! xx

Liz - are you going for no nappies at night too????!

Well, we are still not pushing it as I firmly believe he will do ti when he is good and ready. He asked for the potty this morning after breakfast which was a bit of a suprise and made the rest of our v tight routine to get out of the house on time even tighter - but by the time he had fannied on positioning the potty just so he had pooed in his nappy

At the mo he is still at nursery full time so if we want to push it they will have to do most of the work for us but I don't think he is ready for that yet as whenever I mention telling nursery how goo dhe is on the potty he says 'NO NO and get's a bit upset so I am leaving that cross over for the moment.

Anyway we'll see where we get to next! I am going with the flow over the things he HAS to have in place - we read different stories while he sat last night as I just said 'oh I am sick of those ones'.

It's the naked thing that bugs me most just cos I can see him age 6 still wanting to strip totally to go to the loo  stupid I know, or wanting to strip to use the toilet when out and about! Hey ho!

    Thanks all!

hehehe bless him he knows what he wants sounds just like finlay - little monkeys!

i dont have any advice as havent attempted with fin yet as have been too stressed out with mason/lack of sleep and everyone poorly! i really want to give it a go in summer and see what happens...

he knows what a potty is he knows to pull down trousers and will sit, laugh and get up - if i say have a wee or poo etc he gets all upset and cries saying no!mmmmm not good!

could you perhaps just speak to hv if they are nice theymay have some advice? also perhaps post on the potty training bit as there may be someone else with the same!

i think its brill he is at that point myself and would go with it and just perhaps break cycle by when you go to his nannies or sumit take potty and try there or something!
