hey girls hope ur all doing well with your babies!

i just wanted some advice really on nighttimes,n ive spoken to a few friends whose babies all slept thru by 6 weeks, maddox has done it once, went from 12pm til 7:30pm, but he was grizzly that night for hours, and didnt go in his moses basket like usual in evening. At the mo i make up 6 oz, he sometimes drinks it and sometimes only has 3, or 4 oz its totally random, and he goes 3 and half to 4 hours in day. At night i really thought by now he will be at least showing signs of sleepin thru! dont get me wrong hes a good baby, he only wakes once or twice if u count morning, but i dont get how i can make him go longer and i dont see him ever sleeping thru! normally we will put him in his moses basket abour 8-9pm after his feed, weve just started bathing him aswell at night, play lullabies at night time feed, then he will go a good few hours in evenin upstairs on his own, then he will wake around 12 for his night time feed, but then still wake around 3 half 3, and last night he woke again 2 hours later after having nearly the 6 oz!! my mum said she would have put his dummy in then instead of feedin him like i did, and another mate said to try and drag his last feed longer so hes hungrier at night and also try to feed him as much as he will take to make him fuller, but he still wakes!

i just feel so frustrated with so many people sayin so many different things, i feel stressed like im not doin it right, when im stressed i seem to take it out on my other half! i dont no whether to put him in his moses basket later but then people say they shud be settled and quietened down in evenin so they distinguish that its night time! dont really no what to do for the best xx

The short answer for me is - yes, I think it's expecting a bit much so early (obv am no expert and others may well disagree!) They have such teeny tummies at 6 weeks, it's natural for them to wake up for feeds as they can only fit so much in at any one sitting. I have a quiet belief that if a baby is sleeping through so early it's luck & not judgement. *cowers waiting for cries of "you're wrong!"*

Please don't feel stressed! Personally I'm listening to a lot of advice but taking 99% of it with a pinch of salt and just doing what feels right at the time. There's no way you can follow everyone's advice as so much of it contradicts! You're his mummy and whatever you decide is right for him, is right for him - you know him best even if (like me  ) you feel you have no idea and you're making it all up as you go along!

shes only just started falling into a routine and she is 3 months (well 5 weeks corrected age).
i watched the baby whisperer on sky and follow the EASY routine and it seems to work really well. started it on wednesday night and she went to bed (in her own room) at 8.30 had to get her up 5 mins later as she had hic cups and with the reflux it can make her sick, so cuddled her for 10 mins until the hic cups went, she was then fast asleep by 9.25. i picked her up at midnight for a bottle, she didnt even wake up but took 3 oz, she was back down by 12.30 then slept until 7am. thursday was even better and she slept from 7.30pm until 8 am. last night she woke at 4am for a feed but she had been really active so must have used up more energy and calories.

so sticking to the EASY routine for us me thinks. i dont have rigid times but keep the routine the same every night.

Abby is the same as Maddox - generally a good baby (only wakes once a night) but I would love her to sleep through. However when people say their babies sleep trhough I think they usually give a late feed - about midnight. Karen mentions the baby whisperer - in there they call it a "dream feed", you feed them without waking them. However I feed Abby at 10pm and then we all sleep trhough until 3-4pm. There is no way I could stay awake until 12 but I think she is probably too small to go from 10:30pm - 7am no matter how much I wish she would. Also she is still less than 8lb so she can't really take on anywhere near 6oz in one go.

The other thing I'm trying to do is reduce the amount of sleep time during the day but sometimes she is so sleepy - at the moment she is asleep in her vibrating chair and I put her in that to wake up!!

I suppose I should just be glad she sleeps as much as she does. She is such a contented baby most of the time - bless her cotton socks.

i tried to keep her up in the day so that she would be more tired at night but it made things much worse. she was overtired and could not go to sleep. now she goes upstairs mid morning for and hour or 2 then up for feed then a play then when she starts to drop off she goes back upstairs and sleeps for about 2 hours and it is now so easy to get her sleep in the night.

i find it hard to stay up til midnight but i set the alarm so i have a couple of hours then do the dream feed then she will slepp until about 6.30-7. dh gets up for work at 6 so i'm awake anyway so it makes things easier.

kar is right blondefriend the more they sleep during the day the better they sleep at night.
I cant believe any baby has slept thru the night by 6 weeks! Josh is 10 weeks today and he has his dreamfeed about 10.45 (baby whisperer recommends to dreamfeed anywhere between 10pm-11pm, so you dont have to stay up til midnight) then sleeps til anywhere between 3-4, feeds then thru til 7-8am. I too cant wait for the day he sleeps through the night but then as much as i would love to sleep through myself there is something a bit special about being up in the middle of the night snuggled up on the sofa just the 2 of us when the world outside it asleep (except on fri and sat nights when theres a load of drunk people wandering down the street! ) dont feel bad that your baby doesnt sleep through, you cant compare your baby to anyone elses theyre all different and id take anyone that says their baby slept thru at 6 weeks with a pinch of salt....

thanks for all your advice and all your experiences on the matter girls! maddox is really getting into his routine now, dont no what this baby whisperer stuff is but sounds bout right! maddox has a dream feed thought it was just my baby bein strange hehe! went my dads last night for tea, took the moses basket as we were staying late, but oh no maddox wanted to stay up with the big boys! think it was also cos he was taken out of his routine of bein upstairs in a quiet room, and didnt settle at all! was niggly all night and wouldnt be put down! got home and he was asleep from the car movements but as soon as i tried to get his snowsuit off with great difficulty he woke up damn it! he then fed again and didnt wake til 4, had a feed then woke at 8, so wasnt too bad when we got home but prooves that once you get into a routine, they soon notice when you break it! xx
