Hmm, what kind of blender are you using? I have a fairly standard John Lewis own hand blender and it purees things to a REALLY smooth consistency in seconds (sorry, don't mean to gloat! - just trying to work out why yours aren't smooth, my friend had the same prob).

Also, how do you cook the fruit/veg? I steam it by chopping it into cubes & hanging it over a pan of boiling water in a sieve with the saucepan lid on top of it all, if you see what I mean.

At the end of the day though there's nothing wrong with jars (as long as they don't have any ingredients other than fruit/veg). [Having said that even the simplest, organic ones have a preservative in and call me neurotic but I'd like to avoid that as much as possible.]

thanks girls, yeh i really didnt wanna use jars so am sad!! i bought a baby blender specially for babu food from tasda was 13 quid, is that cheap? thought was quite ok, and i have to blend for ages, i boil the veg in a pan and its always really soft, so maybe ive got a duff blender? he seems to love the fruit ones more so do i just give him them or is that just as a pudding? cos he needs to have the veg ones first i guess

Perhaps it's not blending smoothly because there's too much space in the blending pot bit, so the veg/fruit rattles around a bit too much? I use my hand blender in quite a tall, narrow container so that the fruit/veg has nowhere to escape and HAS to be whizzed!

I gave Lily veg for a fortnight before giving fruit, and although she eats the veg she def prefers the fruit! I think I'm going to give her a larger portion of veg followed by a smaller portion of fruit every eve from here on in, like main and dessert (instead of giving just fruit some days and just veg others). Don't want her to start refusing the veg because she prefers the fruit.

Hey Pinkladyb - speaking for myself only, I absolutely cannot eat boiled vegetables, especially when boiled a lot (as you would need to, to get consistency for pureeing).

I steam all my veg for myself and it retains the flavours a lot better and doesn't take on that "boiled veg" smell that I find a bit gut-wrenching.

It might be worth trying your steamer and additionally, it has the benefit of holding in a lot more of the nutritional value of the fruit / veg.

    Just a thought.

    Good luck!!!
