    Hiya ladies!

Skye has been trying to crawl by caterpillaring and rolling about for a few weeks now, but things have moved on to a whole new level...

..now instead of crawling on her knees and hands, she is moving about like a monkey!! by that I mean that she is trying to move on her hand and feet/toes. I think maybe she has been watching our cats too much and is trying to move like them!!

I must admit that I am slightly concerned she will carry on like this and not crawl properly at all...not sure if what she's doing is odd or not?!

Is anybody else's lo doing this, or done this??

Maybe she's just going to progress to cruising and skip the proper crawl...

    Ho hum!!

    Iz & Skye xx

Rachel does this too, I'm so glad she's not the only one! (We have 3 cats too, so maybe there's something in your theory!)

She's totally disinterested in 'conventional' crawling, but is bum-shuffling everywhere and trying to pull herself up, so I don't expect she will crawl properly. I blame OH's genes!

Thank goodness Skye's not the only one moving around like an ape!!

Things have progressed over the weekend, and she is now part ape/part normal baby again, hurrah! She does a combination of hand/toe crawling and normal crawling with some rolling and bottom shuffling thrown in!! She has also developed a fascination with my laptop cables so it will have to move to the dining room table... x

lol Skye is like Juliet - she doesn't do sh1t by the book!!! Juliet did caterpillar for ages and although she standard style crawls now, she still loves a bit of ape. If anything, I think it is getting the muscles of the body strengthened in readiness for standing as the body is straight and the legs are being strengthened all the way down rather than crawling which isn't as much weight-bearing. Juliet has now gone from ape walking to coming up to me, going into ape position then 'climbing' each hand up onto my legs then trying to move hands higher up my body...it is truly like 'Evolution of Man' in my living room.....methinks Skye is onto something and is not as daft as you are thinking with her unorthodox techniques!

i cant believe ruby isnt even interested in moving whatsoever! can Ju and Skye have a word in her ear? actually i always said the longer she stays still the better but i feel like she's not doing anything!!! she wont even sit up properly, keeps head butting the floor and hates being on her tum, no effort to bring legs up at all! worst bit is, she is frustrated and angry all the time about being on the floor but doesnt want to try! grrrr
have great pics in my head of the babies aping across the floor

haha, I will get Juliet to have a word with Ruby about moving about if Ruby could have a word to Ju about eating lots of solids and not throwing up milk. That would be all :P

Juliet's cousin Jake is 1 y/o this Thursday and he can't even sit up yet. He has been seen by an orthopaedic specialist and had blood tests taken and they reckon there is nothing wrong and that he just doesn't have strong muscles. In telling you that, am not trying to freak you out but just to say, Naomi, that according to the professionals, it doesn't matter that he doesn't sit up, roll, crawl or walk at the age of 1 y/o. Me, personally, I'd be seeking a face to face with a Paediatrician myself...however, he is different to Ruby as he barely seems to notice that he isn't moving about and isn't frustrated at all so reckon she will be off and about fairly swiftly once she can be bothered!!

TBH some babies never crawl. They just go straight to walking. The problem with crawling is that it is the one thing not related at all to the baby's general development.

My OH started crawling at 6 months, his older sister never crawled (quite happy sitting and watching the world go by) and his younger sister at 9 months.

Abby can crawl properly but if she wants to get somewhere fast she puts her feet underneath her and tries to stand but, of course, ends up back on her bottom looking very frustrated.

It sounds like Skye will be off and walking before you know it - good luck!!
