I hadn't realised the year reviews were optional - I mean, obviously no one can MAKE you go, but I wasn't expecting that the letter saying that Lily is due hers to be worded quite the way it was. Basically it's sort of an invitation and if anything it discourages you from going just as a matter of course: "if you do wish to discuss any aspect of your child's development, you can phone the surgery...." etc rather than "you should phone the surgery to make an appt".

Have yours been presented like this, too? Is everyone going to go to theirs?

I'm not sure what to do - on the one hand, why not get her checked over, on the other hand, if I get a box-ticker doing the review, I'm sure I'll get grief about her not rolling, crawling or walking yet, when I'm perfectly satisfied that it's simply a case of her not wanting to/ being ready to yet

We don't have a 1 year review here. Toby had an 8 month review a couple of months ago and the next one he'll have is a 2 year review.

At the 8 month one he sat and played with toys with one HV and then there was another one, who I've seen before and like, asking me questions about what he can/can't do etc and making note in his file.

He wasn't crawling at the time but she felt he should be, I just told her I wasn't worried and I was sure he'd do it when he was ready, just like the other 2 had done. I just said it was silly to compare all babies against each other as they'll do it when they want. I wasn't funny with her but I did let her know she couldn't bully me and make me feel there was something wrong with Toby or the way I parent him.

If it were me I'd go, like you say you can get her checked over and if they're like mine they'll do her weight and measurements. I always like to find out that info as it amazes me just how much he's grown in the past 10 months.

I didn't know you got a 12 month review? We got an 8 month one here.

Skye gets so many reviews from being premmie, hips/eyes/development etc, that I think the poor girl would be most unhappy if we had anymore LOL!

And like Kelly says, about the only thing I'm interested in is how long she is and if she's vaguely following her centile line still, although Skye seems to have stopped growing height-wise at the mo. She's going to be a short-arse like her mother LOL!!!

Ours was worded as an optional thing to do (it was an 8 month check rather than 1 year) but the letter I had stated a pre-booked appointment time and you're encouraged to go along to get your bookstart kit.

I like our HV so wasn't worried at all. C wouldn't play ball with some of her 'tests' but she didn't raise any concerns at all. We were lucky as ours do it in combination with a Dr review too which was quite useful as potential things found at the 12 week check (C had 1 minor point they thought would correct itself in time) could be reviewed without having to make special appointments.
