Afternoon
Just wondering if anyone else's babies are using an inhaler at all.
We're on our 4th chest infection since Ethan was born. Last two occasions we've also had steriods along with the anti biotics and inhaler. Thankfully it seems to work quickly and he recovers well.
The doctors won't diagnose Asthma as Ethan is to small, but its a very good chance given that my eldest suffered from when he was 2 until 5. My brother, father and my fathers parents are/were also astmatic.
When would they diagnose? If there anything i can do not to get attacks? they literally happen overnight!
(We don't smoke)
Hi my dd1 is ashmatic and has been since she was a baby. they wouldnt diagnose her until she was 2 as they basically said she was too young to diagnose. she has an inhaler and a baby spacer (which she hates as she doesntlike it going over her nose)
I have found hers get worse when the weather changes (not looking forward to going on holiday to jamacia in january due to the vast weather change!) also i keep her out of the room im cleaning and dont use spray deodants in the room she is in. unfortunatly she is at higher risk of chest infections and has had croup twice both times requiring steriods-but like you said they work quickly!
hope your lo is feeling better soon. x
Hello,
Sorry to hear that Ethan isn't well. Not really mch advice to offer but didn;t want to read and run. I am also an asthma sufferer although mild...good thing is that you;ve got the right treatment and he is recovering well although it can't make it any easier for you to watch your LO ill.
Maybe keep his nursery humid as as a mild asthma sufferer myself, I find a dry room irritates my chest quite easily. Do you have any pets? Again, the dander from their fur can be another irritant. We have a dog and ensure he doesn't go upstairs. We have a hepa filter vacuum cleaner to help get rid of the fur and dust mites.
Sorry not much help xxx
Hiya
Thank for the replies
wannababy - both my boys seem to be also when the weather changes. We went to Florida in June, Ethan had chest infection days before we flew but thankfully the steroids worked well, the weather there made little difference to him, for some reason hot weather abroad is always different to here...to me anyway.
Gichu - thanks for the reply, i don't have any pets, which makes thigs a little easier.
I know coming to winter months this wil strike again, i have fingers crossed it won't but doesnt look good. In the winter due to central heating, i always put wet towels on radators and bowls of water around the house, to keep moisture and use karvel drops in his bedroom and the living room to help him.
Its awful seeing him ill, but i'm thankful that unlike my eldest who when ill, slept alot, and was quite limp, Ethan has what they call a happy wheeze, where he's miserable but still smiles and tries to play etc, but then just ends up shattered!
On a plus note we've been asked to see a doctor once he's better as 4 times is alot and so he needs a folow up consultation.
