So Taylor finally went down at 5:30 this morning! She used to be really good at night and went down at 10:30ish and just woke every 3 hrs for feed. She turned 6 weeks on Thursday and developed an attitude! She now refuses to go down in her crib, whether she's awake or asleep when I try, she just screams, and screams, for hours if I leave her. She's tired and will sleep on me or in our bed but as soon as she touches the crib she screams! She's really awake in the day time too so I don't know what to do! I'm breastfeeding but tried to get her to have a bottle of formula before bed as I thought it might fill her up better but she just spat it out. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, not sure if I can help or not, but Eli was having trouble sleeping when we bought him home from hospital - he would not go in his cot at all and had to be close to me at all times.

I don't know if Tyler is in a moses basket or cot, but if she's in a cot could you take one side of the cot off and move it right up close to the bed (like the co-sleeper cots you can buy). That's what we've done - our mattress is exactly the same height as Eli's cotbed mattress). Eli goes to bed at the same time as I do, and I'll cuddle him to sleep and gently move him into his cot, and then move away. If he wakes, then I'm still there close to him, so he doesn't stir too much. This would all depend on what height bed you've got though.

Good luck - I wish Eli would sleep 3 hours at a time, so I hope you manage to get her back to her previous routine and manage to get some sleep. I remember that DS2 did the same as Tyler at about 6 weeks, but he did come out of it after a while. I hope Tyler does too x

Hi. Have you tried wrapping her in her blanket differently? Dominic went through a short phase like this and wrapping him tightly, with one arm out really comforted him. I'm also a bit naughty and let him sleep on his side, it's not advised though. I'm also a bit guilty of co-sleeping this time to, but hubby works nights, so it's only ever me in the bed with him.

Or maybe the mattress is a bit chilly when you lay her down? Try putting her onto a warmed blanket? How about trying using sleeping bags at night if she's the right weight?

With the formula, try different temperatures. Both my boys took their bottles at room temperature, much to everyone's disgust-apparently babies need warmed bottles....hmmmm. Mine threw up warm bottles. Or maybe differnt teat? There's so many of them, again both mine took Tommee Tippee bottles with Vari Flow teats better than Avent ones. It's soo difficult to know what these babies want!

Hope that something out of that ramble helps.xx

My daughter is the same, she seems to get herself over tired she has a mad hour at around 7 every night but as soon as i lay her on my chest she calms down, also she constantly feeds at this time we're literally tied to the sofa and she's talking over time with my son who has been an angel and we have to take it turns to play with him with his track in the lounge!!
OH goes back to late shifts on friday and i'm dreading it...
Sorry edited to say i haven't got any advice i'm just hoping its a phase!
Also for those with boys and girls is it a girl thing?? my son slept and fed like a dream from the day he was born.

Hi, I've not posted in 'born in..' before, but was a lurker/seldom poster in 'due in...'. My little girl is 6 weeks today.

I think it sounds like your lo may be over-tired if she's awake a lot during the day. Have you tried to make sure she sleeps more in the day, or swaddling her to help her?

Generally, the better they sleep during the day, the better they sleep at night. You may find that once daytime sleep is sorted, night time sleep will improve.

I've found it useful loosely following The Baby Whisperer's EASY routine with my lo, and my 15 month old. The books have been invaluable for tips and hints on settling and addressing any issues. It may be worth a google for tips? Hope the problem is sorted soon xx

Baby sleeping bags are good I will agree with that. Dylan hated his crib from day 1 and has probably spent a total of 30 mins in it in his 8 weeks. He sleeps pretty well in his cot though I think it's because the mattress is a lot more comfortable. As wrong as it is though we've had to give him a pillow as we had to do with DD when she was a baby. Dylan did also go through a phase of sleeping on his side but we packed him in tightly with rolled up blankets at either side of him so there was no chance of him rolling over.

Hope it's just a phase for her.
