How do you put your baby down to sleep?

I've always put Jack (who is now 3 monts old) on his back but I went to a baby and mother group today and surprisingly found that a lot of babies (newborn and upwards) were put on their fronts and sides!!

I always thought back was the safest but these mums seemed fine with it and said it even helps with brain developement!

When LO went through a phase of bad colic and reflux we did put him to sleep on his side. But now that it has all calmed down he actually doesn't like sleeping on his side at all so it's back for us. But we would have done whatever LO prefered to be honest.

i put him down in his cot on his back, when he used to fit into his moses basket during the day i would place him on his side - to reduce flat head - but only during the day so i was around to check on him.

Putting lo in cotbed at weekend but in our room so he will go dwn on his back then. But im sure all the side sleeping in moses has prevented a flat head.

Yikes! We're on his front! Ethan refuses to sleep any other way and it's been the only way to get him out of our arms and our bed. We use the Angelcare monitor though, and wouldn't be without it.

    (Waits to be yelled at...)

Back! M seems to have been fine on her back and probably wouldnt know what was going on if I tried her on her side or front!! She absolutely hates tummy time so would explain why she prefers sleeping on her back!

Ps Ruthiespoon - I absolutely hate it when other mums have opinions on what other mums do!! Really winds me up! (which is why I tend to steer clear of the baby forum!)If your LO is happy on his front then so be it!!!

I'm the same as ruthie, both of my boys sleep on their tummy's. They won't sleep any other way!! It's all a bit like the weaning for me, when my older son was a baby (11 years ago) the advice was to sleep on tummy and wean at 4 months so it's what I know and it works a treat for us. xx
