A very belated hello from us,
Firstly thank you so much to Boris for being my fabulous PP and to all those congratulations. Maisie is 11 days old today and it’s been quite a crazy few days.. so to begin with a brief birth story for you.
Monday 5th August : I had my 40 week MW appointment early afternoon, about an hour or so before hand, I went to the loo to discover I was starting to lose my mucus plug. My mind was in two halves – one side saying, yep things are getting started and the other side, don’t get carried away it could be awhile still. So we trundled on down to the doctors for our appointment, after which I was left feeling a bit down about it all really as Baby hadn’t engaged any further – she was just 3/5 engaged same as the fortnight before. They decided not to book me in for induction and to book my 41 week appointment instead and we’d see how things were going as they were sure I wouldn’t need to be induced. H and I decided to celebrate reaching our due date tomorrow we’d have a curry to start to encourage baby out tomorrow evening.
Tuesday 6th August : It’s D-Day!
3am - I woke up, having to go to the toilet and suddenly thinking these BHs were actually quite regular. After keeping track of them, I rang the hospital who advised me to have some paracetamol before trying to get some sleep. After having some time with H thinking this is it, I finally manage to get some sleep.
8am – When I did reawaken the contraction had pretty much gone, but pretty soon started to kick in again, so I had a bath before mid-morning deciding to put my TENS machine on. The contractions were getting a little bit stronger and more regular as the morning went on.
3pm – With the contractions now lasting 1 minute every 5 minutes, we rang up and were advised to come in to be checked out. Once there, they felt fairly happy nothing was happening (typically the contractions had died down slightly again) but offered me an internal to check, which living 20 mins from the hospital we felt would be good to know what was going on. So, internal and sweep done where they say my cervix still has 1cm to go before I’ll start dilating. So we head off back home where we plan to have dinner, a bath and try and get some sleep ready for when things will eventually kick in. On the way home the contractions appear to kick in just that little bit more.
6pm – Our early dinner eaten, H runs me a bath. Not long after I get in there and with H keeping my mind busy off the contractions, I suddenly felt a gush and uttered the words “I think my waters have broken”. He was pretty happy with this as we hadn’t really thought to protect the mattress or anything as we knew it would be our luck that the one place we hadn’t protected would be where they’d go. Out of the bath, I announced I needed to go for a poo, with nothing happening there I rang the hospital from the toilet and we got ready to head back in.
7pm – Arriving at the hospital, my contractions felt almost constant with only a tiny break between them. And my TENS machine was no longer being so amazing, that and I was still feeling like I needed to poo or push.. one of the two, oh and that I was still peeing myself. In the assessment unit, they hooked me up to monitors and straight away we noticed the concern... Baby was in distress, her heartbeat lowering everytime I had a contraction and she’d done a poop on the inside. So much so that before heading onto the delivery suite, the mw said to me, it was highly likely a c-section was on the cards. Which I mentally prepared for in about 2 seconds. I just wanted my baby to be ok. Over on the delivery suite, our mw was a student (with a qualified there too!) but she was so

She is beautiful! Sorry you have had a rough time since her birth though, that sounds stressful and it's great that you are managing to express. I really lost confidence with bf top after some problems, but we did crack it and it suddenly became very easy. But whatever you decide, you are doing a great job overcoming the problems you've had and you'll know what the right thing is for your family :) congratulations again x
