sorry I haven't been around like at all in third tri, I am still stalking and reading the thread every day though! I'm applying for my first mortgage and it's just a nightmare because of the changes and I'm too miserable to post on a regular basis.
I wanted to ask those ladies experiencing Braxton hicks - what do they feel like? I fell over a couple weeks ago and got strapped up to the machine to check on baby and whenever my heart raced the contraction monitor bit went up, not by a lot at all, so I assumed that was Braxton hicks but I wasn't actually feeling any pain or anything... Last night I had period pains, they lasted about 30 seconds but were exactly every 3 minutes - do Braxton hicks feel like period pains and now im further along I can feel them? I just slept it off in the end as it was hurting. I know this is TMI but I've had loose bowel movements for the last 4 days which I know can be a pre labour sign and yesterday I just felt god awful, banging headache, achey all over, and I mean getting frustrated and quite ticked off in the end that my back was hurting so much, heartburn, I was just a walking catastrophe so to end the night with period pains was the icing on the cake lol
hope all you ladies are doing well, and chirpier than me today :)

My BH don't hurt, they feel very tight and I get very very mild pulling/crampy sensation- but in no way wouled I describe it as pain.
I would call your MW to talk to them about it, it's best to be sure.
AFM- another bad night sleep- I couldn't get comfy, my wrist splints were annoying me as it was so warm and my H was snoring like a trooper! Urgh. H is away tonight with work so I'm hoping being able to starfish in the bed will help me get a better night sleep!
HF has been squirming around, I'm still convinced they're breech despite the MW thinking otherwise.
11 days of work left after today! This makes me happy!
15/05/2014 at 10:07
11 days left is exciting. I think I worked until 34 weeks as well and used up all my annual leave so mat leave still hasn't started yet, which is nice for my bank account! I was sweltering last night so can sympathise my H didn't think it was hot at all. Hopefully you can spread out tonight and get a catch up sleep before the weekend. .
Got a growth scan and midwife tomorrow so will mention it then and see if they say anything, I think she's now engaged as walking is beyond uncomfortable as is the pressure low down so hopefully the scan shows she's engaged in the right position, then I'm at least one step closer to meeting her! I have a work lunch today at 3pm and it's at a curry house so I plan on ordering a spicy one :)
WW I don't think I can answer teh braxton hicks question. If I get them at all (which I'm not convinved about) it just feels like my insides are crunching up so a bit. Feels uncomfortable but no pain. How far are you now? Could they be mild contractions? Not wanting to scare you like! The mortgage process is a nightmare. We also had to go through all the new checks and the whole thing took forever. Loads of luck to you for that.
Imp sorry about the sleep. It was so warm last night though! Hopefully tonight is better, it's certainly more overcast today. 11 days woop! Are you planning much for your mat leave or just to relax?
AFM - I also had a horrible nights sleep. I think it's time to change the winter duvet for the summer one. Could really do with an early night tonight but we need to get a present for my neice's 9th birthday and I need to bake a cake for a leaving do tomorrow. Boo. Having nando's after work though which is cheering me up. Not much to report baby wise. Still lots of kicking but the times have changed slightly. Does everyone record kicking each time? I keep thinking that's something I need to do but I haven't been so far.
Hi to those that follow
15/05/2014 at 10:15
Jonesy - I'm 37+1 today so getting on a bit now! This did feel different from everything I've felt before but at 2am when I went to the loo it had stopped so I think it must have just been painful Braxton hicks. My sister said her contractions we're completely different to her Braxton hicks so she now thinks she never had Braxton hicks during her pregnancy as she thought they would feel similar just obviously contractions would be a lot stronger. I guess we don't know until it's all over annoyingly.
Seems there's a recurring theme with lack of sleep today, deff switch to summer quilt! I don't monitor my movements but I know she goes quiet for a few hours during the day but is otherwise noticeably moving every hour.
15/05/2014 at 10:17
WW I have still got 3 weeks left at work as those 11 days are spead over shorter weeks, i decided i'd rather do that than finish earlier.
Jonesy we swapped our duvet a good 6 weeks ago. H has moaned non stop ever since about being cold but I am sweltering all the time. The baby is like a little hot water bottle I think.
How was your meat fest the other night? I love a good nandos, mmmm.
15/05/2014 at 10:42
Ah so not long to go!! Well I would maybe ring the mw just to be sure but if they're gone now it might just have been vaguely painful bh. Who knows?! All a bit of a guessing game really isn't it. I seem to have kick sessions every couple of hours but it all goes quiet in an evening. Really hoping this pattern stats post birth haha.
Imp - the meat fest was amazing!! Ate way too much and had a bit of a stomach ache the day after oops. It was worth it though! Well normally I'm the cold one so being hot is a real change for me. I'm dying today at work too and I still have 2 and a half months to go! A summer baby was bad planning. Especially in an office with no ac. Oh poor H. Mine's not moaned about the cold but doesn't like the window being open cos it's noisy. Too bad mate.
15/05/2014 at 10:45
Defo too bad! I think as the uncomfortable pregnant lady- what we say goes! Noise is a small price to pay for a bit of relief from the heat!
Glad the meat was good!

WW - Maybe it is a sign that baby is on the move! I would check with your midwife just in case. I don't think I have been getting Braxton Hicks - I get the odd cramp/stitch/pain but nothing consistant or overally painful.
Imp - Hope you sleep better tonight! Short weeks at work is definitely the way to finish! I have a 5 day, then 4 day, then 3 day week left, then I am all done!
Jonesy - Hope you aren't too tired and sleep better tonight. Enjoy your Nandos!
AFM - I bucked the sleep trend and actually slept ok last night! First night in weeks I haven't woken up needing the loo a few times a night. I am probably setting myself up for a sleepless night tonight now!
Baby is super wiggly all the time, which is nice and reassuring but a bit uncomfortable! Pretty sure they are still breech, will have to wait until midwives appointment next week to find out! Fingers crossed they turn!
15/05/2014 at 14:28
Wishful! Great to 'see' you back! I didn't even realise I was having BH until the midwife told me I was having one as she prodded my belly! It just felt like my bump was super hard, not painful at all. A bit uncomfortable is all. I think actual early labour contractions are supposed to feel like period pains, though..... And they can start and stop for days, annoyingly! I wonder if it might be you next then?
Imp, enjoy your night of starfishing! When is your next MW appt? Do you always see the same one? It would be interesting to hear a second opinion on baby's position.
Jonesy, I think poor nights' sleep is what third tri is all about! I don't think actually recording kicks is recommended anymore, but keeping track of general pattern of kicks is. So, I think you're fine doing what you're doing!
Vix, I hope baby isn't breech, or moves soon if so. Wriggling is good though, but I totally get the uncomfortable-ness of it. Especially if baby IS breech!
AFM, I'm getting bored. Tried to make challah and be all domestic goddess-y, but I'm not sure it's going well. It needed to be kneaded a lot longer than the recipe stated, and I ended up adding more flour to it to get it to come together, so I think I might have over-kneaded and added too much flour. It did rise well, and it's now doing it's second rise, but I'm not optimistic. If it's dry I'll just use it for bread pudding! Baby is running out of room in there, I expect the MW to measure my fundal height at 40 tomorrow I feel so massive, though two weeks ago it was 33, so maybe not.
I've got a question for us all. In an ideal world, at what point would you want baby to be born and why? For me, I've been thinking I would love baby to be early because I'm sick of being pregnant, but now I'm thinking the ideal day would be 40+1. My mom will have arrived the day before and be able to look after Wispa for us while we're in hospital, and she would still get maximum baby time during her trip. Knowing my luck, now I've changed my mind on what I want baby will end up coming next week, haha!
15/05/2014 at 14:39
Vix yay for a good sleep, I hope it continues for you. Fingers crossed that baby has turned too.
Wispa I see the same mw in the main. Each time I see a new one they tell me what good stomach muscles I've got- whichh I don't think I have- and that it's tricky to feel baby. Not filling me with confidence tbh.
In answer to your question, any time from about 38 weeks would be fine by me. Preferably not too late, but as long as they're safe and well then I don't mind.
15/05/2014 at 14:57
Vix - glad you had a good sleep. It's amazing what you can deal with if you've slept well. Hope the baby turns by next week. Are you doing lots of bouncing?
Wispa - pardon the ignorance, what is challah? Like a cakey bread thing? My fundal height on Monday was 28 which means I am likely to be way more massive than you! I've seen bump pics, you're lovely and neat. Ah I really hope you get a bang on time baby so your mum can have as much time as possible with HJ. For me I think I would like a bang on baby. 39+ something anyway. I have my best mates wedding when I'm 38+6 down in London which is a bit of a scary thought but I used to work in the nearest hospital so don't feel like I would be going into the unknown if I was to go into labour. H has a wedding when I'm 39+2 so really 39+3 would be magic! I don't want to go too far over as I don't like the idea of induction at all and would refuse one unless there were clear medical reasons. Had a brief chat with H about that though and I don't think he would want me to refuse so if I can avoid that battle I'd like to!
Imp - no one has ever EVER mentioned my good stomach muscles *sob*. I'd take that compliment and run with it! I'll swap you for my easily findable baby flab if you like?
15/05/2014 at 15:55
Imp, if they say you have good and, I'm sure you do! I've got flabby abs, I'm sure.
Jonesy, challah is like brioche. It's a very slightly sweet white bread traditionally braided. I think it's a traditional Jewish bread... it's really yummy used to make French toast, or just normal toast even. I hope your baby comes after 39+3!! What a busy last week you're going to have. If you go into labour when your .h is at the wedding, how tough would it be for him to get to you?
15/05/2014 at 16:10
Ah see we've planned for that. It's in wales so I will stay with his mum that day. He's an hour away from the house but we will be within 30 minute drive each of the hospital so not too bad. It's 2 hours back to our local hospital so I started getting contractions chances are we could get there too. Just have to wing it! He's told the groom he might not be able to come at all and might have to leave suddenly so they will be aware at least! Very busy last week and virtually impossible to do either wedding if baby comes early! We shall see.
ooo sounds nice. I love french toast! I used to make it a lot in the states. I have to say for as much as you say you're not domestic goddessy you make some yummy sounding things. I shall have to pop in next time I am down south!
15/05/2014 at 16:42
WW, sorry your mortgage stuff is so stressful, it's sucky. Brixton hicks feel like an uncomfortable tightening sensation, the bump goes hard and feels like everything's being squished. They're not painful though, pain sounds like early contractions.
Imp, boo to the bad night's sleep. Very restrained of you not to starfish even when your H is there- I do! When you start ml I highly recommend a lunchtime nap, I'm finding they really help!
Jonesy, sorry you've had a bad night too. What cake are you baking? I don't record kicks, just keep a vague track of whether I've had movements generally. Some days are quieter than others, I try not to stress unless she's really quiet.
Vix, yay for a good night! Hope baby has turned by the next MW appt.
Wispa, domestic goddessy sounds good, I didn't know what challah was either though, but they sound yummy. I'd like 39 weeks I think, now would be fine but H is off from Monday and he'd like a little bit of time off pre-baby.
I saw the MW this morning, Attila is still head down but not engaged. I think with second pregnancies babies sometimes don't engage until labour though, so doesn't necessarily mean anything. The MW reckoned she'll be 7.5-8.5 lbs, I'm hoping for bigger than J's titchy 6lb3, so was happy with that assessment. As anticipated she wasn't jumping up and down to discuss my inability to walk, I guess at term they're not going to try to sort anything. My new change bag was delivered today, I went with a babymule for the ease of carrying with backpack straps, I think it'll work well for 2 in nappies. It's not as pretty as the leather storksak lovely I'd really like, but it's way more practical. Right, must go clean the bathrooms before picking up J, I've been procrastinating all day, times almost out and they're top of my to do list.
15/05/2014 at 21:12
SG, I'd heard that about second babies, too. I think it's rubbish that they aren't going to try to help with the walking, though. You have a toddler to chase around and not being able to walk properly is not ideal. My MW has been similarly dismissive of pelvic pain, saying I could just give yoga a try.
