I would just like to say a huge thank you to the people of Mumdrum. I have today recieved a very generous donation from you guys. Thank you to whitesparkles for organising a collection and thank you to Mcsquirtle for checking in on me and keeping me up to date. I am not someone who has posted loads on the forum, except in the third tri threads, so It is very touching to know that so many of you have been thinking of us and that we have been in your thoughts and prayers. There are no words to tell you how grateful we are.
We plan to use the money to buy Keira some sensory toys. My husband has been looking online and at some catalogues lent to us by the hospice and having used some of their resources we now know some of the things that she likes. We are looking at getting some toys and/or a play mat that have lots of textures on it so that Keira can start exploring these with her face and hands. She likes it if we gently rub a texture on her cheek, then hold it there for her to then rub her face on if she likes the feel of it. We are also going to get a furry blanket, as my in-laws had one of these that we were taking photos of her on at the weekend and where it is not cold to the touch and so soft she was very content and happy on it. We are also going to look at getting a bubble tube or fibre optic lights as although she is blind she can definitely 'see' light and dark. Any of the donation that is left over we are going to give to the hosipice and we plan to donate the toys/equipment we get once Keira has either grown out of it or no longer needs it for what ever reason, to the hospice.
We would all like to say a huge thank you again, this really is a wonderful place and you all have hearts of gold.
Mini update - she was weighed by the health visitor today and has put on 3 ounces over the week so now weighs 5 pounds and 3 ounces at 6 weeks and 6 days old. She has had 4 sesions of Reiki at the hospice. The consultant has now referred her for a hearing test and to get her eyes checked out (he didn't do this before as he wasn't expecting her to get past a month). So all in all she is currently just like a normal baby at home, apart from the tube feeding. We are getting into a routine and just enjoying each day as it comes. We are forgetting that she has issues and I thin that at the moment that is the best thing we can do, otherwise we would be worrying about her or end up being upset. Here is a little flash of Keira. (I will remove the photos later on today)
this is when she was a few days old in hospital and needed the light for jaundice.
This is her a week and a half ago (We haven't put the more recent pictures of her on the coputer yet)
Thank you once again, I really can't say it enough!!
