Has anyone got any experience of this. K's doctor thinks she may have a hernia and wants her to go back in 6 weeks to check if it is going or not before further action is taken.
Is it a simple op? Dont like the thought of my wifelet having an operation

I have one too and need to get it checked post pregnancy so will watch this with interest. Sorry no advice though x

I think I might have one after this baby arrives as I have a whopping gap!
A colleague had the op. they basically put a mesh strip down the gap to pull it all back in. She ended up with a big of excess skin so paid extra for a cosmetic surgeon to finish up. Result is very tidy. She has a very think scar down the middle. She can't do any abs exercises for a year but otherwise recovered really well

I have. It is grim - still look preggers 10 months after having the twins.
The dr has not really been that helpful - initially she said wait and see if I could try and close my abdominal separation (have got it down from a four finger width gap to a 1-2 fingers gap) to see if the extra strength in my core would help hold the hernia in. I started hardcore pilates but haven't been since december as I have been really sick. The thought of an operation terrifies me - it is a really invasive procedure and would take a long time to recover from (especially with kids to look after). I found that exercise needs to be quite specialised as "normal" tummy exercises like crunches etc can exacerbate the abdominal separation hence the reason for the specialised pilates.
You have kind of reminded me that I ought to be speaking to the dr again about it! Thanks!

Ah now i am confused. I have separated abs which is a big op to repair so i am told but i also have an umbillical hernia which is a totally different thing. It looks like i have 2 belly buttons where some of what should be on the inside is poking through a small hole behind the skin - thats what i would need repairing if it doesnt go after birth...

I too have separated abdominals and a hernia (kind of across my tummy above my belly button) so basically both things in the same area. The hernia is poking through where my tummy muscles have separated so in my case i can see why i have been told to work on my separation.
I would do anything to avoid an operation (i am such a wuss) - i'll be so p*ssed off if I managed to birth my twins naturally but then have to have abdominal surgery to reapir the damage they caused!!
Cheers guys. I shall show your replies to K.
