Am i right in thinking there is a maximum amount of time you should use a car seat for, as in it's age? We have a maxi cosi priori for P and have been after a second one to keep in Mums car. Friend of a friend has one for sale so i know it's not been in an accident but she thinks it's about 4 years old. For some reason that rang a bell as being maximum time they should be used for?!
Does anyone know?

Some have "use by" dates on i believe but i read somewhere its 5 years but have no idea if thats right or not....!

Yes, it's 5 years. We had a stage 0 Maxi Cosi cabrio fix which we had for K and for A but were told in John Lewis that after 5 years the insides can start to degrade. I rang Maxi Cosi who confirmed they should be replaced after 5 years. Bit of a pain TBH as the new seat is EXACTLY the same as the one we had! Better to be safe though....

4 years is fine I'm sure. Lavender rose emailed britax regarding this and they said as long as safety requirements hadn't changed then they were fine to use

I think maxi Cosi are just looking for ways to make money tbh. Why would theirs degrade but Britax say its fine?

Hmmmm thinking about it though she could in theory be in it for another 3 years. Which makes it 7 years old atleast. Will think about it.
I was thinking that too Ally but not sure if it's worth the 'just in case'.....

It wasn't a risk I wanted to take TBH and both JL and Maxi Cosi said the same and JL are usually pretty honest.

I'm glad I bought britax and not maxi cosi, saved myself a fortune!

Whaaaaat?! What the hell is the point of the one we have then which is 4-12 years?!
01/07/2013 at 19:43
Good point lindtbunny, surely they can't relate that rule to 123 seats?

Yep that's another thought i had LB. Who knows?!

The woman in JL said that it was in the padding around the head which in a group 0 seat is vital. In the 4-12 seats I guess less so?

Maxi cosi say 5 years. Britax , concord and besafe don't.

Ally is correct, I emailed Britax as I have a nearly 5 yr old seat and a 3 yr old one and I was told as long as they hadn't been in an accident they were absolutely fine to use. I plan on using mine again for number 3.
Like Ally, glad I bought Britax!

Oh good ours is britax too so we will stick with that brand for A's next seat too.
