Do the godparents you choose have to be christened themselves?

In the Catholic Church they do - I'm not sure about other faiths. Our priest is pretty traditional though .

I am godparent for a beautiful little girl - when her mum was sorting the godparents out she was told that they did have to be christened. BUT she had her sister to be a godmother who was not christened and they didnt ask for proof or anything.x

Yes they do. They can be Christened at the same time though I believe. As suzie says they wont ask for proof but I would suggest that fibbing about it isnt really the way to go!

Yes they do, although they never asked to see proof at all. I reckon God will know though...

C's godfather wasn't Christened. I was never asked if the godparents (or indeed, myself) were Christened. She probably assumed everyone was

B was dedicated in a baptist church and no, wasn't asked if they were christened.

I have two godchildren. I wasn't asked either time if I've been Christened. I have been, as it happens, but no-one asked.

Not always - I'm a god parent, the church my god daughter was Christened at knew I wasn't Christened and it wasn't a problem.

Apparently the catholic church are a lot more chilled out about these things now. Two of our chosed God parents aren't christened and no one seems bothered about it.

One of Zoe's godfather's isn't christened and so couldn't be an official godparent - we refer to him as her odd-parent, which in this case is very approrpiate

One of Matilda's isn't. Was never mentioned.
