    PM

    Morning,

Seems the Antilop is the popular choice of highchair on here. A is coming up to 4 months, so we're not ready for weaning yet, but he seems to get frustrated when we're eating, so we were thinking that maybe he might like to be at our level watching us. Those of you who have the Antilop, would you put a 4 month old in it? Would it be safe? He's quite tall and can hold his head up really well.

Or, if anybody has a different highchair that might be suitable for him to sit in at this age, which one do you have? We've not bought one yet so open to suggestion.

    Thanks!

You can get an inflatable cushion for it, but I'm not sure a 4'month old who can't sit up would find it comfortable.

Do you have a bumbo or similar? We had the mama and papas version of a bumbo and used to put that on the table when we ate.

We've got the Mamas and Papas bumbo, and he likes it, but I think I'd be a bit scared to put it on the table.

Mealtimes are getting really difficult. We end up eating with him in one of our knees as he just won't settle anywhere by himself. Before we eat he can be happy on his play gym. As soon as the plates arrive, he kicks off.

Why are you scared to put it on the table? We just put it in the middle of the table so he could see both of us.  Obviously don;t put it near the edge but they're pretty stable and you'll be sitting right next to him.

tbh I did have a chicco highchair for a little time but it was so big and cumbersome and he always slipped down it it.  the try was so big and high he couldn't reach half of it - at was a big 98th centile baby! - so we soon sold it on in favour of the antilop.

If you're planning on getting the antilop anyway then it may be worth picking one up to try it.

Mine could sit atb19w so was happy in the Antilop with inflatable cushion. It was great as he played with toys whilst we ate, and then when the time came for BLW I cold give him bits from my plate.

The inflatable cushion was very good. If they aren't sitting yet, they will soon, so I'd get it sooner rather than later

You could try him in the antilop with the inflatable insert. P sat in hers for food from 23 weeks and she was/is very short so size wise he's probably fine if he's got good head control. Can't hurt to try. If not then BG's bumbo idea sounds like a good one. If he's on the table directly between you then he'll be perfectly safe.

Never realised there was an insert, I'll look that up.

Our dining table is glass, which I think is what worries me. It's the next item of furniture to replace on our list.

F didn't really sit in our antilop until around 6/7 months as he was still quite small and just used to slide around. Until that point, he'd sit in his bumbo in the middle of the table.

I also used the bumbo on the table until they were big enough for the high hair.

A is 4.5 months and has been sitting in the Antilop from 4mo, without the inflatable cushion. I think you should get one and try it out; you'll need it later anyhow so you won't be losing anything if he's not ready yet.

I feel your pain, I usually have to feed A while I eat as he gets narky otherwise. Or we have to eat at separate times so one of us can hold him which is a major PITA!

Yep Esme was in the Bumbo on the table for quite a while (until we sorted out a highchair!) which was ideal as we have the tray too so once she was weaning could eat from it too. She still sits in it happily now at 10 months, but not on the table obviously!

We sat I in the antilop from 5 months & gave her spoons & cups to play with. We have a cushion that we put behind her & still do. Although she could sit up independently at that age.
